Blossom hill, thank you for the packaging reminder, It cements something I have been admitting to myself recently.

Just this morning I went to boots and saw all the not sold goft sets (normally gone in my neck of the woods by now) and was tempted by lots of packaging. I enjoyed admiring it and even admitting I thought it was beautiful...but that I want none of that branded stuff in my home, no matter how lovely it looks...what's inside fails to deliver and then you are left with an umpteenth bath bag/tote/weekender bag or a preet cardboard box.......to store junk in. No thank you.
  • Last night I managed to clear out a box of, well tat really, that was given to me on my hen weekend, 5 years ago.

The box started by looking pretty, but has long since broken. Because of when it was given I just sort of assumed I had to keep it. Going through it, I realised all I really wanted was the lovely poems my friend wrote.

Its taken 5 years to realise that I know my friends love me, I don't need a broken cardboard box of joke stuff to remember that.

When the lightbulb finally comes on it all seems so obvious......

Feeling daunted about the box room this weekend, and a bit stupid for saying i might dip my toe in today...and when daunted the best thing is to face it.

I am off upstairs to remove ten things from the box room to our bedroom pit.

Wish me luck people, I'm going in....

Hahaha, ten minutes, ten things IN THE BIN. Reached an impasse already because I can neither move nor reach over the boxes of CDs. But, the winter coats dh ruined last year (tube train door and normal train door) and two of my coats out, a bit of cream fabric, out, a pair of pink curtains out, a horrid jacket OUt, a pair of shoes I dislike OUT, um, cannot remember what else. To keep, some clothes of both of ours. But I can see more shoes I need to think about.

I have a pair I love but which kill my feet.....I should get rid....not sure I can yet. I have a pair that are really comfortable but I wore clubbing fifteen plus years ago, these are sort of sentimental. Not sure ready to let go of those yet....

lir - I thought of our chat about house decor styles when I saw this quote There is hope in honest error. None in the icy perfection of the mere stylist. (Charles Rennie Mackintosh)
I must aim for honest error! I don't want my home to feel like a theme park anyway
Well done on the 10 things, especially the ones you have already forgotten

We found 3 lots of £5 vouchers when decluttering, and also realised our boots card has got more points on than we thought - that's a huge bonus.

Sent an email off about something that I have had in the back of my mind since I joined the site. I don't expect anything to come of it, but at least it is not cluttering my mind any more, making me feel incompetent.

Must do a balance transfer this weekend and sort myself out.

This weekend will be a balance of housework and decluttering. Hopefully a joint effort.

Balance, balance, that's the key to the whole business - well done WW!

Knew I was heading for 'one of those days' no dd1&2's room finished, no dd3's room gutted for no specific reason I just don't have the energy not the inclination today

I DID do the ironing pile that was sat in the kitchen and bring down some more bits from monster pile upstairs but I feel equally as overwhelmed looking at that as if I were looking at the whole pile in front of me

One wash of towels done and in the dryer

I've been looking at a lot of stuff online today. Probably aspirational (fancy toiletries etc) luckily I have no money for spending on junk today or I prob would have bought 'something'
No more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 8

The advantage of getting on with the balance transfer is that I will be able to get rid of the 50,000 balance transfer mailings that have arrived in the post this week!

blossomhill, thanks for your 'summarising' posts. I'm finding them very helpful. :D

Another revelation I had on the washed/not washed/hoarded/cluttered/pretty/whatever packaging problem is that that type of stuff (or a close approximation to it) returns! You are bound to get a replacement.

I wasn't hoarding plastic bags, plastic tubs, and jars but my saved stuff had reached 'clutter' level. I jettisoned all saved bottle and jars in the autumn except for a set of clean ones with lids that I knew for definite would be being used for jam and herbs and had an uncluttered shelf to be stored on until needed.

Everything else went and ... don't you know ... we use the same products, the same coffee, the same bought jam, etc so the jars returned! I've been choosing to let these go and recycle them because I now know I don't need them any more. If and when I do, something appropriate will appear.

It's about trusting that a gap will be filled when needed - not easy stuff for anyone who has not had important needs met when small.
