$20 trick is when you tip the front desk at check in for a "complimentry room upgrade"

I thought it was something like that. :) I think I'd be nervous to do it though incase they turned me down. :rotfl:

we normally ask nicely 'are there any complimentary upgrades available?' sometimes with a $20 bill visible in my hand - and if an upgrade is available then we ask if they can accept a tip as we are leaving and hand it over...if not, no worries, the $20 goes back in my purse.

I have tried the passing a folded $20 over with my passport and CC but I feel silly doing that since once the clerk asked 'what is this?' and then I stumbled over my words trying to explain...some places they can't take tips, some they can...for me the way I now do it is more comfortable for me...some are more ballsy though. :) I know some think that passing the money over first = bribe...offering it after = tip...I'm not sure that the distiction is really particularly necessary and it's just the done thing in Vegas so the 'bribe' terminology some throw around is a bit silly, I think,

There have been plenty of reports of a clerk handing back the tip if no upgrade is available.

If you are going to try it make sure you know what the next few types of room up are and what you'd really like...for some a Strip view would be worth a $20 tip, for others a bigger room would, etc.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

and more importantly, what was the 'band's' name?

I am really amused by this whole thing...I think it's hilarious (and maybe a bit brilliant).

If I can do it checking in solo at CP ....anyone can do it :)

Had a Forum Tower booked and got Augustus Tower instead which was a very nice upgrade -nicer rooms -bathroom as my friend commented bigger than her living room -fountain view and no trek through the casino to get out onto the Strip.

Think of it as your first Vegas gamble of the trip :D

Reviews seem to indicate male receptionists in their twenties are the most open to this....but mine was a lady in her sixties who didn't bat an eyelid when I asked.

We stayed in both versions of the deluxe suite last/this week. I actually think you'd be more cramped in the one that's divided into a bedroom and living area. The 'one big room' layout seemed a lot more spacious - it was wider and you haven't got the dividing wall taking up space. With that layout there's also more room to shift the coffee tables out of the way so you can pull out the sofa bed.

Thanks for that, so they all have sofa beds in that you can get made up?
