Ruby: Thanks for starting this month and year's thread, but you may want to relabel it January and remove the Christmas smiley in the opening post (I like him, but if we don't take him down before the sixth day, he has to stay there until Easter! ;) ). Also, under the graduate heading there is a bit that says 'Thanks to erm me' which was from a month that I started it. Could you please change 'me' to my name, please, as it must be mightily confusing for people who drop in from month to month and actually read the first thread! :rotfl: Thanks!

Happy new year, ladies: may it be a very good one for us all, and may we use more toiletries than we buy! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I did notice that when I was copying it over but then went and forgot to actually change it. Will get right on that now!

Have just NYE-ed my nails; gone for OPI Goldeneye with black crackle on all but my ring fingers. We were supposed to be going out tonight but not sure now as people keep bailing. I don't really want to have to play host but it might end up that way!

  • Thanks to ruby_eskimo for starting us off on a new thread and a new year!!

I've been doing the challenge for a year now and I've currently got around 148 products, having reduced the overall stash by 68 items, even taking into account my Christmas/sales influx of 50 products, so I'm pretty happy with that. My aim is as far as possible to not have any bought IN for the first quarter of 2013, I don't think there's anything I'll actually need so hopefully I can have a pretty good go at that.

Will update stash list and post later - need a few last min bits from the shops first (not toiletries!)

Probably should have added that last year I managed to UU 116 items all in all. I have subsequently "graduated" on the toiletries front but need to graduate on the makeup front. I have so much makeup, more than I realised and it's getting a bit silly now. I wear the same things day in day out in a bit to use things up quicker but there will always been something in the stash to replace it!

Once again for next year I aim to UU at least one of every type of product in my stash e.g. one lipstick, one lipgloss, one blush, one eyeshadow, one primer etc etc.

candyandstripes: I vote for the sniff test, too. I have found S&G Hand Cream to not last very long

That stuff doesn't last five minutes! I got one of those big S&G hat boxes last Christmas. I finally opened it up last month and found most of the products were smelling 'off' even though they had all been stored in a cool, dark place.

I am definitely joining again this month and will attempt to throw myself into it with more enthusiasm after going a bit mad at Christmas. I will pledge to use up 10 items and buy none, except moisturiser which I may run out of.
  • I'd like to join this challenge as I have umpteen bottles of stuff stashed here, there and everywhere!

I actually don't know how many I have tbh!

Yup, I'm IN, thank you for kicking us off ruby_eskimo.
I've never got around to trying S&G, and from what you all say, I've not missed much.

Rosemary, big hugs. It's a massive step and will mean great changes. Don't rush anything. In the meantime, do prepare the ground as best you can and get as much info as you need, but also make sure it's really what you want before you do anything drastic.

I was extremely lucky in many respects. My immediate post -divorce life was very tough for years, but had I stayed married, I could not have taken my current career. My life is better now.
I sometimes make myself shudder by imagining what my life would be like now, if I had stayed married.

Ironically, the divorce wasn't my idea, but I owe the woman he ran off with massive thanks...

Wishing you all the luck in the world.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • I'm rejoining again. Hi everyone! I may have to get a few items on occasion but only necessities. May run out of shampoo but i think aside from that i'm good. Definitely got enough make up!
  • Not strictly toiletry related as such but I've just lit a Melt candle that I was given as a Christmas gift and it is absolutely divine, 'Rich Cream' - the description itself is so nice - "Fur lined boots, sheepskin mittens, woolly hats, alpaca coats, sherry & brushed cotton jim jams!" Perfect for a cosy NYE in, have a wonderful night everyone, whatever you're doing
