THe other thing to think about is how long new social contacts take to get through the barrier of being new.
It will depend on the social scene, frequency and how social people are.
it can take time there is no quick fix.
Sounds like the walking based activities could be a good option if you like the more adventurous perhaps look in that direction for clubs if lake district(if you live there) what about a small business leading walks.0 -
re the running - I am seriously asthmatic and run regularly. I started earlier this year, and within a few months of being quite dedicated and persevering I am now really loving it and missing it if I don't go out.
You have to build up really steadily - you quickly learn to recognise the difference between normal chest tightness due to being unfit, and the signs that something more serious is going on.
The best advice I had was to run for 5 mins, and choose a pace I could maintain that no matter how slow, and then to walk for 1 or 2 mins. Just alternate, doesn't matter how steady, and you will improve quickly. You may be best going on your own until you are more confident - other people go at different paces and if they are not contending with asthma they may not understand why you are going as you are, and why sometimes you will run differently on different days (weather plays a huge part).
Don't rule it out just because of your asthma - it's an added dimension but it's not impossible.0 -
Use your child!!.. I used to work with children and I noticed that many parents meet other parents during children activities and become quite close friends. You talk to each other while children are busy playing, you meet the same people regularly, start arranging home plays, visit each others house, give birthday/christmas presents - I think it's pretty cool, and you don't even need to live close if you have a car. And if it doesn't work for you, at least the little one will appreciate some extra fun.
