They gather that for themselves during their investigations. If the OP thinks he/she has well-founded grounds for suspecting fraud, then that's enough to report to the authorities.
Thankyou for your very helpful and unjudgemental reply.0 -
How do you know ?Canary_Lover wrote: »I do know that income has not been declared. How is for me to know, but it has been properly reported - and not just by me. Another person has proof as well and has reported it.
I have no reason to be jealous of the person involved. I have much more than he has, and a better life style. The difference is that mine has been paid for by properly taxed income. So please don't make assumptions about me.
If being angry that someone else deliberately doesn't pay their taxes, which means that every honest person has to pay more to subsidise them, makes me a "busy body", then guilty as charged! And I do not apologise for it.
How do you know all facts & circumstances of their life ?
How do you know that tax & benefits haven't investigated ?
How do you know several people have reported & how do they know all of above ?0 -
if it looks like a troll, sounds like a troll and writes like a troll and has been a member for 3 minutes, then guess what?

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothingPlay nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j0

Vast majority of reports are false or maliciousMaybe...maybe not.
Nobody can tell on here, if there's something to report then 'some idiot' has to report it for it to be investigated. As already stated, investigations can take a long time.
People get it into their heads they know this, that & the other.
He's rambling on about a car, like a dog with a bone, I know this I know that, what a load of nonsense.0 -
And you wonder why people get away with it - spurious/ malicious reporting wastes time. I trust you are happy for your taxes to be spent on this kind of activity, and for those that are genuinely committing fraud to get away with it, because the compliance teams are too busy dealing with reports based on nothing but jealousy?
I wasn't suggesting that people should report maliciously or on spurious grounds. You obviously misunderstood me. What I was saying was, that if someone feels there are well-founded grounds, then they could report, as the authorities would not expect a full-blown prosecution bundle to be handed over. I have made no assumptions about whether or not the OP is jealous, malicious, or otherwise.0 -
you should report them to DWP and HMRC0

Just how much exactly are they earning and how much are they claiming in benefits. Child Benefit is not means tested...anyone including millionaires can claim that.
Income can be received in cash and declared. I'm not sure how you know exactly what this person has put down on their SA102.
Child benefit is means tested. That puts your knowledge way down the list; don't you ever watch the news? And you wonder why people get away with it - spurious/ malicious reporting wastes time. Do you have any figures to back up your suggestion that this will lead to an unsiccesful investigation? or that other more fruitful ones will be overlooked? Most are subject to a series of evidence gathering steps and decisions to proceed based on the likelihood of an outcome. A report that will go nowherhe doesn't go very far, so there's little harm done.OP i suggest you mind your own business and worry less about other peoples,if hes been reported as you say he has then thats an end to it,so stop twitching your net curtains and get a life..:-)
If we ignored the idea that MPs might be fiddling or that someone was suspected of being a habitual burglar or various other crimes, would that make us a better society?
Perhaps you'd like your house robbed by the guy every one knows is on the rob? Or would you like to pay my (and others) share of the costs of fraud? Why should the hardworking (or indeed those who cannot work) lose money for those who are deceitful? :cool:0 -
I watch the news. It's not means tested ....yet...and anyway...from next year millionaires can still claim it and then have their tax codes changed to pay it back through the tax system from their salary. A millionaire on paper will still be able to claim child benefit if they do not earn a salary. Ever heard of Steve Jobs' salary @ $1 per year. He got shares instead of a main salary which isn't an income...Technically a tax dodge as capital gains on shares are not taxed as much as income and if he had this set up in the UK and every millionaire should have an accountant to minimize paying higher rate tax then he could have claimed full chid benefit.Child benefit is means tested. Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
