want to wean myself off of iphone
hi there, i am sick of spending £40 a month on my phone contract, (which has currently expired) and would like to be free of feeling like i should be constantly checking my email, so am thinking of getting rid of my phone. can i get a payg sim and just use it or calls, using wifi to check emils where possible, or should i just get a simple phone and payg sim and use iphone as a itouch so my daughter can play the games?
what do you think would be the cheapest option?

If contract has expired why on earth are you still paying £40 a month??“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

i am trying to decide whether to upgrade or ditch - still using phone - this was my tariff from 2 years ago i think its £39 per month0

I've an iPhone and only pay 16 quid a month for 900 mins, unlimited texts and half a gig of Internet and unlimited wifi
Surely the £39 a month was also to purchase the phone?0 -

Simple phone?
Cheapest option?
Upgrade?
You don't need to upgrade to get a cheapest phone.
Cheapest option is PAYG or a sim-only contract and depends on what you actually need.
What's the point in the second phone? Just use your iPhone on a cheap tariff with mobile data disabled.0 -
You really have to decide what you want before asking for advice.

i would like a simpler life!
Just looking for thoughts on how to achieve that - simple phone & Payg sim seem best plan but can i keep iphone and use it as camera, game device on no plan at all?0 -
have you considered sim free only- i used to be like you i used to get contracts after the phones but soon realised the phones are gimmicks, Soon as you have signed for that shiney Iphone 5 Iphone6,7,8 ect Follow suit with more or less the same stuff and longer contracts
anyway i would consider sim free, you can get a good deal if you already been on a tarriff just prepared to haggle with them, consider what you want and what they can offer and compare tarriffs on different networks to get a better deal as all operaters say there the cheapest going"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -

The iphone is yours, you paid for it with your contract. Why would you want to replace it if you enjoy using it so much? Just get a cheap sim to put into it. If you want to change network then ask whoever you're with to unlock it.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
