I've been debating the holiday thing.

I haven't had a proper holiday in years. Instead we have house/dog sat for friends, gone camping or had a night in a travelodge etc. It is a definate want rather than need. I have decided that if I want a holiday I will have to save for one rather than credit carding it. ANd when I look at it like that I need to pay my debt back (some at least) before I pay out for a proper holiday.

We will do our camping, house sitting and travelodging for a couple of years yet. Might look into youth hostels though...thanks for that idea.

Well my thoughts of NEED not WANT's have abandoned me recently and i feel dreadful for the money i have spent :(

I never realised how angry i would feel with myself for caving already, Ok far enough the stuff i bought today was stuff i needed for my sons birthday, but that was budgeted out of next months money, so now im going to struggle this month, and next month more than likely won't save the money i should of this month (if that makes sense lol)

Why can't i just stay away from the shops! Many people say a bit of retail therapy helps your moods, well this bit well and truely sent me in a bad mood as i have now messed up my whole month.

Can only move on from this though!! Need to think of what i need, not want!!! Arghhhh lol

Beth, don't beat yourself up over this!! Look at your impressive signature - you seem to be well on your way to being debt free; a few slips are inevitable!! :p

Hi Suze, don't know if they still do, one year The Sun newspaper gave codes online which you could collect without having to buy the paper every day. It was 10 different words you got from their website, and when you booked you had to type them in to the screen - was good as we were able to book the holiday online instead of all the faff of posting tokens off.

Not sure if I've explained it right. Think my friend signed up to an alert and every day she got a new code.

Got a 6 person caravan in Newquay, was a good base for a holiday :)

Hi Flyinggiraffe, thanks very much for that heads up!! Will check it out. Going online would defo be much easier than posting tokens etc.! :)

Yeah, we have also stayed in youth hostels - some do great family rooms! Totally agree with you about sorting debt out before a holiday, although I don't practise what I preach :( Need to prioritise!! Again, something else for me to think about!
  • Needed to buy fuel today as I have to put a fuel receipt in when I claim expenses, but other than that, I've had no spends today.

I need to go to the bank this weekend, and also visit waitrose for some dried beans, so I will have to be careful not to spend elsewhere. Will limit myself to 1hr in town, and that will help.

Last night there was an advert for a free food awareness flip chart made by the government for the change4life campaign it looks really good there is a free app too

    Get yours here: https://befoodsmart.change4life.co.uk/

It is a meal planner giving you ideas and recipes to help make charges to your diet at a low cost to your purse.

If you are looking to swap meals for a healthy lifestyle and saving money, it's a great little tool and free too :)
