OK, unfortunately most of what I wrote will not count then. :o

If a claimant is eligible for CB JSA they are expected to claim it, not IB JSA. Hence they should check your husband's entitlement to CB JSA before looking at the means testing information. As you have made a joint claim, he will also be assessed for an IB top up, but your earnings (plus his JSA) will be too high to qualify. Had you had a mortgage this could have made you eligible, as housing costs are added to your applicable amount, but housing benefit is dealt with separately so it will not apply.

With regard to your hours, these should be taken over seven days, I wonder if the form you have been given is different because of the bank holidays? Not sure on that one.

I think you are in a no win situation, at least until the new tax credits year (you can ask for an assessment on your current income). On a positive, he will receive £71 a week.

joint claim ? not sure what you mean ? i done a quick assessment online before i filled in claim form for my husbad, it came up that he should claim jsa-ib.... few questions,.. will this get rejected and he get awarded jsa-cb ? or will i need to close claim and reopen ?
also when my carers runs out in feb, can he claim that then get income support to top up ? or will they not allow this?
finally will we get any help towards dental/prescriptions/school meals etc? thanks
  • Thanks miduck - thought they had a mortgage. Op you should still be allowed to apply for housing etc separtely but it seems like tax credits won't apply, shame as you are only a whisker over. I wish there was more support for families like yours.

Did you enter your details when it asked if he had a partner? If so, this is why they would suggest IB JSA, because of the top up for you. They should still assess him for CB JSA as standard, but give them a call on Monday to be certain.

He can claim CA, but I don't think you'll be any better off. CA is only £58.45 a week (non means tested), and any top up would again take into account your earnings. Your eligible amount for IS, if he was claiming CA, would be approx £143 a week, so CA + earnings would still be more than this.

I'm not sure on eligibility for school meals, but the criteria is here. Give your LEA a call to ask how they decide on your annual income, is it on current figures or tax year?

With regard to healthcare costs, you need to apply for help via the NHS Low Income Scheme.

thanks midduck for helping with my questions... i shall ring on monday and see what they say,

alsio was wondering if anyone can make head nor tail of this for me... its from the local council and is a guide to housing benefit and council tax benefit....

we have 3 children, 1 is disabled (middle rate care) we are aged 29 and 31. our rent is 80 per week, tax is band A. we wont be getting carers allowance so are we still classed as carers?

    http://www.gateshead.gov.uk/DocumentLibrary/Benefits/Leaflets/Guides/Housing%20Guide%20Landlords.pdf

does the total amount given take into consideration all benefits/wages etc? because i could always take on more shifts at work but theres no point if we still need to pay full rent :(

anyone ? sorry if im posting to many questions but dont know where else to ask.... citizen advice were a waste of time :(
  • Your B7 form the one with the dates on (the one which you put your hours and earnings on), depends on which date you/oh sign on, if he signs on a wed then it will start on the thurs, you might have had to put one in earlier before christmas so they could pay you and average out your hours.
