the problem as I remember from OP's previous posts is this

If they claim Cont Based JSA they will not get tax credits as her OH has worked on a good wage until sadly now being faced with redundancy nor SMI or any other passported benefit that is applicable to Income Based JSA.

If her OH claims IB JSA then they get full tax credits (regardless of earning to year at the moment).

This needs considered as although IB JSA may be wiped out by her wages - there is also carers, CTC, FSM and other benefits that could be passported.

i think we need to change his jsa ib to jsa cb if possible.
also regarding tax credits..... i have been informed that because oh has earned just over £19000 up to now, he alone exceeds the threshold for working tax, then my wages and carers (which is due to stop in feb) totals over 9000 so we will hardly get any tax credits until april ....

On income based it resets to zero - that's why you need to look at this as it can pay far more than the jsa

I am hoping miduck, benefits baby or the other more knowledgeable posters can help :)

Income related jsa is a passport to other benefits - even if you only get £1. Eg tax credits (previous earnings don't count, they use current earnings), free school meals, mortgage payments, council tax bills etc.

What I am not sure of (hopefully others can help) is if your wages plus his cont based jsa entitlement (as you get cont based with income top) excludes this.
  • quick question, who do you get Carer's Allowance for now? Why will it end in Feb? are you getting DLA for your son to enable you OH to get carer's allowance?

From her previous posts op gets carers now, yes dia and she weorks but as her childcare is removed from the £100 pw allowance. She can't claim childcare as an expense now as oh is not working so now earns over the £100 and can't claim.

Sorry for replying on your behalf op - just hoping you get the answers you need and am bored sitting in hospital this evening so trying to help on here.

I've written a long piece and then realised I am not sure of your situation - has husband been in regular work over the past few years, and do you have a mortgage?
