anyone help me with a question related to jobseekers allowance-income based?? i filled in form for hubby online and it suggested on direct gov he claime jsa income based (not contribution which we originally got told) any way he went to jobcentre yesterday and got given forms for me to fill in regarding my job, the only reason he can claim income based jobseekers is because i work less than 24 hours, however the forms they gave him ask for which days i work each week and hours.... however their weeks must start on a tues not a monday
i work every monday so this makes it diffucuilt so 1 week i will have mondays shift-12 hours, tuesdays shift-8 hours then the following mondays 12 hours
which takes it to 30 hours
are they really this particular.
my shifts various each week but i work every monday and another 1-2 day through the week.... so i am doing less than 24 in my eyes, will they see it like this ?

They should take your working week as the guide, not the signing on week. Or they used to, when I had to sign on. My bus driving week is Mon-Sun now, but used to be Sun-Sat elsewhere and when I was office based it was Mon-Fri. So it should be what is normal for you. So long as you do the necessary hours - less than 24 in this case. Do you earn over £111.45 per week - if so it may stop you getting IB JSA. Others will know more than me though.0

thanks for reply, they didnt mention earnings much , they were only interested in what hours i worked on what days.... so u think i should ring them about the weeks?0

sorry have just checked the form and the dates for week 1 are 26th dec-1st jan (tues-wed) so my shifts this week were on thurs fri (with it being xmas) and next week they are mon tues so all will be classed as 1 week

Well assuming you average 18 hours at minimum wage of £6.19 it is £111.42. Signing on will barely cover the bus fare to get to/from the jobcentre. You will have £10.00 of that income disregarded so you would get £10.03 every week. Contribution based JSA pays your partner £71.00 whatever amount you earn.
P.s you don't count Monday twice in a week. 12 hours on Monday and 8 on Tuesday is 20 in a week. You wouldn't get anything working 20 hours.:footie:

but if he claims jsa ib he will then qualify for carers allowance for our son and we would qualify for dental treatment/prescriptions/free school meals?
the form they gave him is set out in boxes
benefit week 1 26.12.12-2.1.13
26.12.12 hours worked h:m
27.12.12 hours worked h:m i worked 8h
28.12.12 hours worked h:m i worked 8h
29.12.12 hours worked h:m
30.12.12 hours worked h:m
31.12.12 hours worked h:m i will work 12
1.1.13 hours worked h:m i will work 11.5
so this week looks like i will be working 38 hours when really im working 16 1 week then 23.5 the next but on paper it states this above is 1 full week to them
also i wont be working anymore untill the 7th and 8th0 -
You work too many hours for JSA. You need to sign off in the weeks which exceed 24 and sign on again in the weeks that are under 24. Too much hassle.but if he claims jsa ib he will then qualify for carers allowance for our son and we would qualify for dental treatment/prescriptions/free school meals?

Carers allowance is separate to JSA.
If you claim child tax credits without the working tax credit (due to working on average less than 24 hours) then you can claim all above anyway.:footie:

If he cares for your son for 35 hours per week he can get Carers Allowance, irrespective of JSA0
-
he cant claim carers allowance if on jsa contribution based as its an overlapping benefit...
a working week for me is monday to sunday which i never exceed my hours.....
however it seems the jsa working week is wed-tues

but you likely exceed the earnings which will wipe out any JSA IB payments.
He can claim the JSA CB of £71 per week for 26 weeks (assuming NI contributions sufficient)
or
Carers allowance
As you probably earn too much for him to get JSA IB (in another post you said 18-20 hours per week at £6.80 per hour) it is likely to be too much trouble with him signing on and off if they collect their info the way he has been asked to to end up with NI credits only0 -
thanks for all replies
as he has his claim ongoing for jsa ib can i change it or is it 2 late?
also if he just claims carers allowance will is top it up?0
