  • This is way many stay on benefits, country is a mess.

    Golden rules in life are:

    Dont get married

    Dont have children.

    Dont buy property.

    Dont have a pension.

    Dont have savings.

Have a cash in hand job.

Stick to the above and you will always have loads of cash. Sad but the truth!!!
  • This really isnt a wind up.
My wage this month after tax and NI was £850
My working tax and child tax was £580
    Family allowance £80
    Total £1510.00

    Rent £400
    Council Tax £65
    Car Insurance £80
    TV licence £10
    Gas/Electric £180
    Water £60
    Phone £25
    Petrol £200
    Nursery £589

    Total £1529.00

As you can see this doesn't include food, general car running costs, clothes, no spare money at all.

As for the bank account I lost my house a few years ago and declared myself bankrupt. Since my bankruptcy ended I never felt the need to get a bank account. My benefits are paid into a post office account, my wages in cash and I have payment cards for all my bills. Landlord picks up the rent each month and the car insurance comes out of a parents bank account.
  • hardworker 85.

if you are working 40 hrs for minimum wage, your take home pay should be £940 a month after tax and insurance.(That is assuming MW for your age is £6.19 per hr).
Child benefit for a month is £86.(more than 4 weeks in a month).
Gas and Electric seems very expensive.
  • So basically stop working, save your nursery fees save your petrol!! Plus you will get more benefits then. But I'm sure you are one of these that want to work and get on with life?

Gas and elec well steep sure you can cut this to £100.

Car insurance steep, assume you shop around?

Yes, probably better off on benefits!

The worse is yet to come for the lower paid working class, yet benefits will go up by 1%!!!

Gas/electric and water are crazy numbers even without a discount for direct debit for the gas/electricity. I don't see any broadband costs. Your listed outgoings are £1609 not £1529.
    It's someone else's fault.

Is there a reason why you are not receiving any child maintenance?

All of these are luxuries, particularly your car which is sucking up a huge percentage of your income.

There have been a few trolls. I think you need to re-do this though - because you need to see what your outgoings are and if friends and family can get you through the short term and if it's worth it. You need to include the MOT/car tax/birthday presents/haircuts/contents insurance etc: http://www.stoozing.com/msoc/soacalc.php
You've missed off the internet too ;-) Seeing it in black and white and having people question it will be unpleasant but usually helps and pushes you to see wood from the trees.

The utility bills are all horrific especially as out all day at work (Are there arrears?), you might also want to rethink the bank account as this could be making your bills higher (Direct Debit discounts).

You seem to be on NMW pay rates but paying for a car and getting through enough petrol to suggest a 50mile a day round trip, such a long commute must be increasing your childcare costs/stress levels and tiredness too. The car insurance is very high for a woman. If you could cut out the car costs (move near to work) or get similar job locally (or any NMW job locally).

Really the DFW board are better at this and have some good advice on how to use bank accounts to lower your bills. With a past bankrupcy you probably need to be building up a good credit/banking history.

Your income is higher than what you posted...You need to multiply weekly figures by 52 weeks then divide by 12 months to get an accurate monthly figure.

Switch your PAYG mobile to an OVIVO mobile SIM and save yourself £25 a month. You will get 100 minutes, 100 texts and 300Mb of data every month for free. £25 is far too much to pay for a mobile.

Your water rates are far too high.. Consider switching to a meter.

Your gas and electricity amount is also far too high. Compare and switch. Turn the boiler off overnight and during the day when you are out. Get an electric blanket to keep warm overnight for pennies. Consider switching to a credit meter and paying by direct debit and you could save about £200 per year.

Your petrol is very high...Consider moving closer to your workplace or getting a job closer to home.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Water companies generally cap for low incomes: http://www.southwestwater.co.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1422

If the utilities are tied to pre-payment/cards etc the OP might want to consider moving as although the rent is ok the utilities aren't.

The killer is the car and the 50mile round commute for a NMW job - benefits just don't account for such high commuting costs for low pay; which must in turn cost an extra 1.5 hours a day childcare costs.

Yes a metered bill is required first and a minimum of 3 children are also required and they cap it to what 3 children would use. Or a medical condition requiring high water use. The OP has only posted the child benefit figures for 1 child and has not mentioned anything medical.
