You failed to mention Phones 4 You that are even worse.
D-a-p are owned by P4U actually...
So, I don't see much difference between going online to d-a-p (or p4u) and going online to CPW (or mobiles.co.uk/e2save/osps).
Major fail on me side there. Sorry. My bad. All in all CPW, P4U and the lot of em' are a complete load of tosh unless you know what you're dealing with and can sort out your problems with em' quickly.0 -

All they want is to sell you products that are overpriced and might not work after a few months. Best thing if you want another contract phone is to go to dialaphone although I have a suspicious feeling they're owned by carphone warehouse too except dialaphone is an online company and their tariff prices are extremely reasonable.
Not really sure where you've picked up those ideas from.
If it makes no difference to an employee what they sell or on what tariff then why on earth would they just pick something overpriced? The only reason I can think of to dissuade someone from a cheaper handset would be if they were known to have problems (for example the last generation of cheaper Blackberrys, Alcatel handsets) - in which case, that's hardly doing the consumer a disservice.
It's all very well advising people to go through online versions of phone stores as long as they aren't expecting the same levels of customer care in the event of any set up issues/general problems.0 -

If CPW do not benefit, or their employees do not benefit, more from acquisition offers with a new network then why are new customer offers more appealing with gifts, cashback and lower monthly rental charges? Logically the only reasoning for this would be a higher level of commision for a sale compared to an upgrade. If this reasoning is correct then naturally there is more of an incentive for a CPW agent to switch your network. It is ultimately easier to sell a cheaper deal... Plus as an added benefit CPW then have your details to then pass onto other companies or sister companies for cold calling at the end of your contract. This would be when they would really make a killing... By selling you the cheapest phone possible on the highest monthly rental charge... Of course I cannot confirm this to be the case... Just seems logical.0

Your reasoning makes sense, but it's misguided....
As was said by previous posters, store employees are on non-commission based wages, and bonuses are heavily focused on customer satisfaction levels.
In general deals are the same if not better on upgrade (eg. gifts are often available FOC on tariffs where there is normally an upfront charge) and a few networks offer exclusive tariffs to upgrading customers. Add to that the fact that it's a lot less hassle to process upgrades (no credit checks to wait for), and it makes no sense to cross sell to a new network unless it is for the customers benefit.0 -

There is a gap in your argument there. Just before the word logically, you fail to discuss any of the other possible explanations and what leads you to believe that your reasoning is the correct one. You then build a mountain of supposition based on that and end by saying ' Just seems logical'
You do realise that some people will read your post and take it as factual, honest advice when in fact it is pointless speculation?0
