Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

Had a good few days.
Put out a load of catalogues, magazines for paper recycling.
Clothes for charity shop.
A few items for rubbish.
Painted the loo, using up an old can of paint. Cleaned rest of upstairs paintwork ( doors etc).
Must be the nice weather. Only trouble is, the sunshine shows up the dirty windows so that has to be tomorrow's job. I am having a day off today.0 -
Hi, not posted on this thread for a while. I think I find it far too easy to be overwhelmed by the state of my house so have not been doing much.
Have done a little bit in different areas of the house in the past couple of days.
Cleared and sorted three of my kitchen drawers, one of which had things from 10 years ago in it:eek:
Replaced the filter in the cooker hood which was a horrific job, long overdue.
Cleared the top of one chest of drawers in my bedroom and one drawer of a bedside cabinet.
Managed to get three washings outside, nearly all dry now.
Last month in the Easter holidays I tidied dd's room. We had a proper clear out so I thought she 'might' actually try and keep it tidy, what a silly idea that was!Looked in it yesterday and she has loads of stuff back on the floor which I'm pretty upset about. I will leave that for the moment til I calm down. She's old enough to keep it tidy.
I'm just doing very little things, bit by bit, and not really that often which is why it seems to be all building up again.
Why is it so difficult to keep on top of things? It's sooooo depressing. I first joined this thread with the mission of clearing my dining table, it's all built up again, it was about half done. Boxes of paperwork. I just don't know how to organise it and how long you are suppose to keep things for?0 -
Have tidied up outside today ... Put kids trikes away and watered plants. Whilst out my neighbours pigeons pooped over washing again! I'm totally fed up with them now and am on the verge of phoning the council. I'm a great believer in live and let live etc but I was just thinking why am I so worried about his happiness when he never spared us a thought when he constructed huge pigeon loft! He is a quiet guy but the birds are smelly really dirty ,noisy and an eye sore! Any ideas? How can I declutter those birds from our life? Had thought of moving but who wud buy next to bird world? No more toys til Xmas 2022 , mfw 2023 challenge , Trying to not waste food , time or money and appreciate the moment more!0

Would love to join this thread. I've started reading it from the beginning and just at 6th January! It's very motivational and have started de-cluttering in ernest now - lots taken to recycling and CS. My son having boot sale at weekend which has given me the incentive to find even more "stuff" for that. Hoping to put house on market by the end of the month, so plenty of reason to de-clutter. Will update soon - thank you for a brilliant thread with loads of ideas.0

Morning All
Beautiful day here, really ought to get going and enjoy it.
I am going to wear my shorts and get some sun on my blue legs at some point.
My decluttering efforts over past few months have resulted in more streamlined house (still a way to go) and £130 at a car boot last week. Money is going on new bike for DD I think, hers way too small all of a sudden.
Think I'll start getting us all washed and dressed and a load in WM, then a short list of tasks for today I think (not too long a list, only end up disappointed if I don't do it all).
Happy BH all. Guineapigsqueaks x

I haven't posted for a while - I have been doing lots of little bits but nothing major.
We are having the boiler and central heating replaced this week so we have been shifting things around to allow the plumber easy access. This has meant a little bit of decluttering and a lot of putting away.
I realised yesterday that we are starting to get to the point where things have "a place" - there is a long way to go but there is definitely progress.
We are having to clear part of the kitchen as we are having the back boiler replaced by a combi which is going in the kitchen. This means moving around the stuff in the kitchen and making space for a dish washer as well (hubbie has finally agreed I can have one! woo-hoo...) so we have been busy.
Last few jobs today and then we will be finished that task. We have a few days off work and I have a list of other jobs that we will get on with this week!

Still plodding along with decluttering/unpacking the house.
Saturday afternoon my friend came round & helped me make a start in bedroom no3 (this is where all the boxes where dumped the day we moved in)
So she took home a huge box of bric a brac, a bedside table, a mirror and a bag of clothes for her DS.
I chucked out lots of cardboard boxes (recycled)
1 binliner ful of non recyclable rubbish.
3 big boxes of shoes & bric a brac (village jumble sale)
Yesterday I pottered round the house and got rid of:
Lots of duplicate recipe cards DS used to grab everytime we went into Sainsburys.. (recycled)
A bag of clothes (charity shop)
4 vintage dress patterns (listed on ebay)
DS's old football boots (listed on ebay)
Vintage dinner set (listed on ebay)
A couple of retro hand bags ( listed on ebay)
Another load of cardboard boxes (recycled)
2 dressing up costumes ( put on a FB for sale site)
Today I don't plan to do too much so just going to sit down and sort through my craft boxes whilst watching midsomer murders.0 -
I think my neighbours across the way are decluttering. All I can hear is
"Do you still need that?"
"When was the last time you used it?"
"Does that even still work?"
"Do we really need four of those?"

Bubblegumcola, I keep asking myself as well why it is so difficult to keep on top of things. I congratulate myself for what I get done and try not not to beat myself up on what I cannot keep up. For a couple of months I managed to keep on top of the post pile but have failed on this for the last couple of months. Currently I am doing well to wipe the kitchen cupboard doors on a weekly basis. I deep cleaned those in March. Every weekend I spend an hour or so dealing with the weed, pruning bushes etc. It keeps me fit as well!
Perhaps with the paperwork go through and decide what you can throw away and once that has been done then decide what to do with the rest.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

I have spent the last 2 days socialising but today I have 2 loads of washing drying on the line. The ironing pile will get done later today. Earlier I cleaned the bathroom and threw away an old colour treatment bottle. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261.
