Morning everyone! Yesterday was my first NSD! Yay!
But I have been to the recycling centre early this morning, and my parents are coming over with the cot bed so I needed to buy some staples so it's a spend day today. Whilst it's a spend day I may make a shopping list and go shopping!Former Debt free wannabe. Now trying to save for a rainy day!0 -
Morning all
Today WILL be NSD #2 for me. I am declaring it now, so that i dont change my mind
I was a bit annoyed this morning when i woke up and my elec had run out. I have recently started keeping track of it, and had got it down to £35 a month. But it has already run out, and i normally put the £35 on the meter on 12th of every month.
I guess the extra useage is down to Christmas tree lights, and the xbox i bought for my 12 yr olds Christmas!0 -
Can I join in again this year? I lasped last year after a few months but need to get back on track and curb this spending bug.
I aim to ignore counting my standing orders and just to count the items I have some control over, therefore my aim for January is 25 NSD which leaves me with one food shopping per week plus a couple of other days as a 'just in case'
Just going to nip over to Grocery Challenge as that needs a serious look at as well. Got to get my spending under control and I find the threads on here really do help and focus the mind. New year: new start0 -
Hi all
Reporting NSD#3/15 here as I won't be spending today. I did post an Ebay parcel but buyer paid postage so I'm not counting it. Tea made for tonight and B&L from stores so no spend there.
Have good days everyone, good luck getting to those totals! My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0 -

I am going to cheat with the update again - sorry but the update would more or less just say the same thing over and over again
Hope no-one minds the abbreviated version. Will try to get back to normal soon.:)
We are all very grateful to you for everything you do. I know I couldn't do it. So no rush to get back to normal. I actually think the abbreviated form is perfectly good.
I am hoping for another NSD but have to go to the bank to do some money shuffling. What my late mother called 'robbing Peter to pay Paul'.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

We are a happy (and some might say mildly insane) bunch doing battle with those retailers - and there’s plenty of temptation out there at the moment. We are seriously committed to saving money, but nobody said it can't be done with a smile on your face - so we organise riotous nights out and gatecrash any function going - all without leaving the comfort of our own imaginations or armchairs!
On a slightly more serious note, we are here to help each other avoid spending for the number of days we feel we can manage to try to take back some control over our hard-earned money. What you class as a "spend'" is entirely your choice; some people will try to shop on the days DD/SO etc are paid, whilst others will not include essentials such as rent. Have a look for a post from our sponsor (and godmother of this challenge) BigMummaF, this contains some guidelines and ideas for starting you off on the challenge.
It’s amazing how inventive you get when you’re determined NOT to spend - from weird menu ingredients to surprising DIY solutions - but you know what? 99% of the time those wacky ideas work.
Link to last month's challenge is below so any newcomers can see what we get up to (hmmmmm... on second thoughts, that might put you off...)

Great idea - am refusing to spend any money I haven't got this year (unlike last year). Good luck all...0 -

NSD2 please for the third day of January. Only on a technicality; the girls were going stir-crazy so we took ourselves out for coffee - but I got DH to pay. This is a bit ridiculous since we have joint accounts, but the number of times he's asked me to just pick something up for him at lunchtime, since I work in town near the shops and he doesn't, thus ruining a planned NSD for me, I think I get to count it if it's his wallet that's creaking open instead of mine!
No chance tomorrow. It's extreme heat conditions here and I live in a bushfire zone, so I have to be out of the house all day with two small girls in tow. We're going swimming first thing in the morning before holing up at a friend's house, and I'll have to pay for admission. Have already packed us a picnic, though, so keeping it low.MFW diary here. 1 Feb 2017 $229,371 - MFD Feb 2043  aiming for May 2028
14 August 2017 - Refinanced: $220,000
