You can turn down the video quality in your netflix account pages.
There are 3 settings to choose from IIRC

I have mine set at lowest and it is equivalent to watching a video saved to KVCD ( a bit blocky on dark shadows on a big screen but okay on a 15" lappy). I mostly watch over the wifi which means that it can only ever stream as fast as my wifi connection can work.
We did need to plug in the ethernet to watch a film over christmas but I think that was because of all the extra online access over the holidays slowing everyones connection overall.
We only have phoneline broadband not optic fibre or anything.

Our highest promised BB is 8MB

I am confused, was the original question if multiple people watching netflix will slow your connection down, or if it was possible to watch different things simultaneously from different devices with the same Netflix account?

it seems clear enough..6 devices can be registered to the account but only 2 streams can run simultaneously (unless of course it has changed since then).
To get more than 2 at once ,you would need to buy two subscriptions to run together which would allow 4 streams.
You could always try it out anyway and see what happens if you try to stream 3 on one account as you can do the 1 month free trial.
