Does Mac make up do sales?!

I received a Mac Make Up gift card for Christmas of £30 but have noticed that I will barely be able to afford a foundation with that amount! Does anyone know if they have do sales, or whether they stick to their guns when it comes to their prices?

Thanks

p.s I apologise for the title of this, I meant do but my pickled Christmas brain typed does. Alas, the grammar police would have me hung.

    Rarely.

For what it's worth, MAC foundation isn't great. Get a couple of lipsticks/lipglasses?

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

I'd heard their foundation was incredible though. I guess it is just one of those 'brands' that people will say is good even if it's not.

I adore their brushes, eyeliner, pigments and eyeshadows.

I only ever buy at Debenhams though when they have extra beauty club points and 10-20% off beauty. ;)

Estee Lauder are part of the same brand so if you like their foundations you will most likely like MACs. Remember their make up was made for stage so it can be very heavy and 'long wearing'. I find with my relatively 'normal' skin, I don't need coverage like that so would never pay that kind of money. Plus, they often have a funny smell! :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Hi Xebnotlaw .. They don't have sales so why don't you ask them to try the foundation on you first so you can see if you like it - saves you wasting a gift card then in case you don't like it :) I say this from experience, I love their lip liners, eyebrow pencils, liquid concealer & brushes but I wasted money on their foundation thinking it was wonderful so now have 2 bottles of it sitting on my shelf!

They don't do sales but your best bet is to go to a Debenhams with a MAC counter when they have their beauty promotions on.

Try the Face and Body foundation if the others seem to heavy.

I find the NC shades to be incredibly yellow so definitely get them to try it on you and then go and look at yourself under normal lighting before purchasing.

MAC Fix+ is a good staple, I like it sprayed over my makeup to take the edge off powder if I've used it, I know some people use it under their makeup too.

Their paint pots are very good (but these days I prefer the Maybelline 24hr tattoo ones).

I don't know if it helps but I really think some (not all but some) of Boots No.7 products are dupes for Mac. I think Mac may make them. Its the eye liners which really are very similar, possibly not in a good way because the colours aren't ones I like and are just too gloopy and thick for me to wear but they do last a long time when on and need a decent eye make-up remover to take off properly!

I'd rate No.7 for mascaras too (some but not all!) though Bodyshop do a great one with a fine comb brush which is really good. I'm not a fan of the foundations from No.7 (or the Bodyshop) -though that's due to my fickle skin and poor colour matching rather then anything else. Maybelline and L'Oreal are what I currently use if it's any help but having been spoilt with samples, I really love the new YSL foundation, way out of my budget though :(
  • I don't know if its cheaper but I always see MAC makeup in airports. But then I always see Toblerone too and it's way cheaper in Asda!

Re Toblerone: and in the £ shop!!!

As for MAC, I'd agree with others and say try out the lipsticks/lipglasses.
