But it's internet lingo. I don't say "L-O-L" when I find something funny "offline", I laugh. I don't turn my head sideways to stick my head out, but I type :-P on my PC. I only call my OH "OH" online and I'm sure many people only use DS, DD, etc. on forums and so on too, not literally calling them "dear" all the time.

I do :o It's sneaked its way into my actually offline vocabulary >.<

You'll hear 'meh man' quite a bit up here, i.e. meh man could ba'er yoor man nae bather!

I have no idea what that means, could you translate please :)
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
  • Hey! I use 'hubby' all the time! My friends think it's cute..... as do I! I always refer to my lovely hubby. :)

P.S. If you need help with ba'er, give me a call.

    Of course. It means:

'My husband could hit your husband until he's unconscious without any difficulty'

Incidentally 'ba'er' is 'batter' with the dropped t's.

    A glottal stop.

Or in other words, a glo'al stop. :D

I've heard that expression before - I think the person who used it was from Northumbria.

If the area between Newcastle and Carlisle is Northumbria, then that sounds right!

Is that the grammatical term? Thank you! Glo'al stop, now I know.

Jeezo, have you read the Wiki description of glottal stop? Can't understand a word of it.

I agree, hubby is also quite dire - although not as bad as OH.

However; this thread has helped me to overcome my disdain. I knew it would help to post my feelings on the subject (The bottle of baileys also helped)

    :)

    I thought it was a "glo'al storp".

At least, that is how my ex pronounced it.
