it's only undoing screws, and lifting a keyboard up carefully - if you're going to throw it away, you may as well try it or give your son the screwdriver - good confidence builder for someone who is interested in IT
the video does it in 20 seconds, the section from 1.25 - 1.50, all you are doing is checking the video lead is pushed in , you don't have to remove all the parts/screws seen in the video
remove battery and power.
removing bezel around power button
remove keyboard screws under bezel
carefully lift up the keyboard, avoid pulling on the ribbon cable
find the video connector in the gap in the metal cover, and push down
screw keyboard back in
push bezel back into place.!!
