I woke up to my husband playing "it's going to be lonely this Christmas" on his iPad.
Went to work for 12 hours ( MORE?) - Police - Safeguarding - fighting - trouble.
Came home to Champagne and loves from husband.
Not a great Christmas day but...it's fine. Next year it will be my day off.0 -
Daughter had a good day, had lots of presents she loved the things I got her (she's 6) but was amazed santa knew what she wanted
I didn't have a great Xmas, my mums old neighbour - was found dead by my younger sister on Xmas eve - We all used to help look after him, only 1 of his 7 children spoke to him on the phone, he used to love my youngest sister and my daughter running in and out of his house, we used to go down and sit with him in the evening, have a few drams and a natter - was company for him.
Knew he was ill though, I suspect cancer which he either never told anyone or refused to find out - if I think back to Summer he was much more mobile and actually was eating. Rest in peace Peter and Happy birthday for today xxx
I think I will actually go crazy tomorrow if I see his "family" emptying his house of anything worth of value tomorrow.
Food was fine on Xmas day - even invited ex over to spend the day with his daughter, he just moaned wanted to leave and go to his GFs of 5 mins familys house - priorties hey - and then my daughter came down with a temp that was causing hallucinations of people leaning over her kissing her and following us around when we walked  been sleeping on/off most of the day.
Hope everyone else had a good xmas0 -
Woke up around 9, made a cuppa and spoke to DD (who was busily eating the Santa goodies from her stocking and watching a zombie apocalypse film) Went back to bed as it was persisting down, read my kindle and eventually got up around 11 with OH. Smoked Salmon and scrambled eggs, then we all prepped veg and laid the table. Prezzie time and champagne (from a glitch, of course) We eventually ate Christmas Dinner at 3pm, of course I had made far too much food so our xmas meal plan for today has been altered to "leftovers" :rotfl:
DD then went off with her Dad for the evening, OH and I sat on the floor, played scrabble, watched Call the Midwife and then Downton Abbey (my current fave) while picking on leftovers and drinking wine then Baileys.
Woke up today at 9 to beautiful blue skies, had a small brekkie (just NOT hungry, no idea why LOL) and then went for a walk in the park to see if the river had burst its banks (it had) watched some canoeists "enjoying" the river then came home for lunch.
Lovely and peaceful, absolutely no arguing and best of all no in-fighting relatives. And it's back to work tomorrow0 -
Got off to a good start - up about 8.30 ish DS loved all his pressies, DH bought me beautiful ear rings, dogs had a ball ripping all the paper up, great start.
DH took the dogs out for a long walk while I organised dinner - the capon was looking fab - cooked to perfection.
DH came back from his doggie walk, and offered to pour off the meat juices which I was grateful of - it was a sizeable bird, so I sat down for a wee breather and let DH crack on - big mistake, huge infact..............he only went and dropped the thing!!!
It kinda exploded up the walls, down the cupboards - I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!!
After much swearing and ranting he pulled himself together and salvaged what turned out to be a very tasty capon.
Massive clean up operation - on the positive side the kitchen is now spotless lol.
I'll be in charge of the roast beef and gravy at ny!!Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - Drag them down to your level - it's cheaper .0 -
It was so-so.
Got up, did presents, phoned all the family back home who seemed to be having a wonderful time. It snowed, lots. Drove up to the mountains for an afternoon snowboarding. OH had booked a nice restaurant, so we had dinner there then drove home. Just the two of us.
To lots of people that probably sounds great. But TBH I felt really down an awful lot of the day. I enjoyed the boarding and the meal, but it just didn't feel like Christmas. To me, Christmas is all about spending time with loved ones, but that's hard when they're all so far away and I felt really homesick. This is the 'smallest' Christmas I've ever had in terms of number of people and it felt wrong. And I'm sad as the realisation hit me that this situation is likely to come up again and again.
We went home for Christmas last year and it wasn't particularly enjoyable - it was stressful, wet, some people wouldn't travel to see us even though we'd already travelled 5000 miles, family members got on OH's nerves etc and it cost us a fortune in airfares. So we were adamant we wouldn't go back this year. But this year felt miserable too, and now I don't know how to make it better for next year and I feel really down. Family don't want to travel here in the winter so having them next year isn't going to work. Boxing Day doesn't exist here and I'm bored to tears. Dreading New Year next week too.
I know it's silly and other people are much worse off. I really love winter and the Christmas season so it cuts a bit deep at the moment.0 -

It's gonna be next year for me now, I had a bit of a dessert-making frenzy on Christmas Eve and have 3 sitting in the fridge, as well as the best part of 2 Mary Berry Christmas cakes (packets from last year) and some huge Lidl stollens to get through.
So maybe wait until Easter now - just 14 weeks to go...! By which time it will be light againValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I have been working so hard to try and get over a stinking cold, I needed to look after guests as well as us two, just two nights and 3 days but endless different meals as different food requirements. Beds to be made etc. Having a bad cold made it all so hard
Christmas day we spent 3 hours driving in a drying air conditioned car, then a busy and noisy day as well as a big meal with dd who catered for all of us 12, including grandchildren. She was run ragged, visibly wilting and we went home at the end of the day with my sinuses stuffed, sore throat and no voice as well as a mighty bad cough. It was a lovely day, really was but I just didn`t feel that well so put on a smile and chatted all day, only to cough ever since, especially at night
Guests have flown home and dh returned safe from the airport and I can now relax my voice. I still feel ill and am struggling with my sinuses and throat, I know they will get better but I long for a good nights sleep. At least I can have a good cough in bed now, dh is ok about being disturbed but I felt so conscious about waking our visitors
Last year was best, by accident, we were on our own for the day and food was a doddle and there was no travelling. I would much rather our very thoughtful children had christmas at home with their families, then came here on boxing day, all of them. I can cope with cold cuts and platters and big bowls of salad and desserts but I can`t tell them that when they ask us to theirs, as they will again next year
If I am completely honest, I don`t like the massive mess that comes with a great big christmas dinner with loads of trimmings. I think it must be my age0
