Leaving Halifax because they keep blocking my debit card

Options
Halifax keep blocking my debit card whenever I make around a £300 purchase and its happened 6 times in the last year. You need to phone up and its a lot of hassle. Have had enough of it. Anyone else similar?

Well every bank has to have a security system in place to protect customers from fraud.

Aounds like you are just hitting the same retailers as the fraudsters are using.

Isn't it a good thing that they are checking before allowing the transactions to go through ? How would you feel if they weren't genuine and they didn't call you ?

but their fraud detection system seems too sensitive. I spend £000s a month and it still keeps flagging up. My blood was boiling today

Its not about how much you spend its about where you spend it thats the issue.

Clearly your spending pattern. Must be matching the fraud patterns they are seeing.

You may find switching from a debit to credit card or the reverse if that is what you use may solve the issue.
As fraud patterns can be totally diffrent on credit & debit cards.

You should direct your anger towards the criminals that make such checks necessary.

All banks have similar kinds of checks. These checks are annoying, but haven't been put in place by the banks to make life difficult for us. As meer53 says, what would you say if they hadn't taken all reasonable measures to ensure it is you using your card?

Calm down, have another sherry and enjoy your Xmas break ;)

Withdraw the cash before you go shopping.

lol then the ATM will probably take the card knowing his luck.

I must admit though the Lloyds banking group is a bit overly sensitive compared to my Amex and NANDP debit card.
  • It must be me then - I feel left out - in all the years I have had debit and credit cards nobody has refused me at point of sale and made me do a security check.

What do I have do to do to join the party!

sounds annoying as hell. RBS did it to me the day I got paid £3000. they told me they block ur card after ever 5 transactions/per day. I told them that was bloody ridiculous.

they never did it again after that though. maybe the !!!! on the fone was lying.

You aren't shopping hard enough. Give me your card and PIN and we'll soon get them to ring you.

Come to think of it, give me your phone too, so I can tell them all transactions are in order, and you don't get disturbed :D

    Merry Xmas ;-)
