I fail to see the OP point ,the people in question dont apparently have BG Emergency Boiler Cover and yet he/she expected them to provide it.Like any other business customers who actually pay for an emergency service normally come first and those who dont are offered first available date.Unless you know one that gives priority to non members !

To suggest people responding are lonely and bitter is hardly in the Xmas Spirit What has the time and and day got to do with it anyway the majority of posts were made yesterday evening.

I am passing by because i can, and my thoughts also go out to others at this time. But do yourself a favour lighten up have a great xmas day.:D
  • I offer an emergency service but if the OP had phoned me & i said i couldn't come would my name be slagged off across this board, I don't normally support BG but as others have said they are a business, the OP hasn't got a contract with them & just phoned them as a normal person in the same way as they could have phoned me, so I'm sorry OP on this ocassion i don't think you have any right to slag them off
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

You all seem to miss the OP's point. If it was advertised as an emergency service then it failed.

    Thank goodness for families!!

British Gas - well what can I say - I am actually lost for words which is rare for me - sometimes the English language is lacking.

    What a con!! typical.

It doesnt matter what day of the year it is - it should not happen to vulnerable people!!

I'm firmly with you OP and yes I do believe you!!

    That's the one:
Competitive fixed price repairs, no matter how complex the job.
Boiler diagnostic and safety checks, to quickly identify the problem.
Parts and labour included*, so you avoid costly extras.
Expertise from Gas Safe registered British Gas engineers.
Peace of mind with a 12 month guarantee on all work.
A 24/7 UK manned customer helpline, so you can call us as soon as you need us.
One off repair subject to availability.

yes it is advertised as an emergency service & as above subject to availibility, i offer a emergency service but if i don't want to or i haven't got time to go out then i won't, just because they are a national company that makes no difference, if they can't get to you because of reduced man power at this time of yr & you are just a joe bloggs then phone someone else, if the OP had a contract with them then that is entirerly a different matter, the OP is moaning because they wouldn't come out so what, then phone another company or an independant, you have no god given right for them to drop all their contract customers just because your boiler is suddenly broken which is what some of you think, even if they had come out what would have happened if they didn't have the part req & no way to get it because of the xmas hols then they would have got slagged off again, is it a crap boiler, has it been reg serviced ? we don't know & it could have been a breakdown that could have been avoided, i mean really get over it & pick up the yellow pages & phone another company

By definition, you're not really offering an emergency service then, are you?

Perhaps better described as an, if i can be ars3ed then I may come out to you service. :)
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

no i disagree, if i already have jobs booked in (whatever day it is) then i may not be able to get there, or if i am on a night out or i have had a drink which would put me over the drink/drive limit or i am on holiday, or would you prefer i totally put my life on hold incase someone phones ? you could pick 20 companies out of the yellow pages that offer an emergency service & be lucky to get through to 5 of them, what some people are failing to see on this thread is that BG are no different to any other company (although they spend an awlful lot on advertising), the OP saw the ad & liked the low price tag (although i've never seen them do a repair for that price just look at the t&c) & is then moaning because they can't get to them, like i said if one emergency company can't get to you then phone another

  • - their contact clealy states "8am to 6pm Monday to Friday"
    - their page also clearly says "One off repair subject to availability"

An even handed fellah reading that would concede that :

I'm sure Monday to Friday, doesn't include Christmas / new year break, and was never intended to, otherwise those very expensive extraordinary call out costs would be clearly stated and costed 3 or 4 times the price.

Subject to availability means just that, a standard sub-contract cop~out~clause. If you don't own 'direct labour' employees you can't force them to work.

Anyone insisting that because their appliance broke down on a Monday that just coincidently happens to be Christmas eve / day they should have the right to have it fixed is not being 'even handed'. The fact of the matter is the O/P fell at both of the first two hurdles and didn't qualify .. .. even if they did have an engineer available.

As an aside the "Elderly couple with a disabled son" should get in touch with their supplier and get on the 'vulnerable' priority services register. This free service is available from all mains gas and electricity suppliers and they already qualify twice (1) of pensionable age and (2) son I assume qualifies [DLA / Care / Etc] as disabled.
