This is absolutely true and happened this afternoon:

Elderly couple with a disabled son. Boiler packed up, no central heating or hot water.

Rang British Gas EMERGENCY boiler repairs - note the word EMERGENCY....

We know it's Christmas Eve but this is an EMERGENCY and you do offer EMERGENCY cover don't you?

Yes we provide EMERGENCY cover. The earliest British Gas EMERGENCY boiler repairs can get an engineer to you is ...............

Is this an insurance claim? If not then call a local engineer. They may not get out now until 27th Dec. If you need heating then get some electric heaters.

Have you tried to diagnose the fault yourself? Pressed any reset buttons? Turned it off for a bit before turning it on? Checked any condensate pipes to make sure they are clear?

They don't have a contract with British Gas but their ad says you don't need to have one. They will provide emergency boiler repairs. Thankfully the rest of family have taken fan heaters and kettles to them.

A house full of guests tomorrow - just really impressed with British Gas saying February for heaven's sake - some emergency!

Where is this supposed advert? They can provide a service to whoever they want, whenever they want. There's no law forcing them to fix this boiler immediately, they are a private business.

Just a thought.

I'm sure there are plenty of local heating engineers who would welcome their business.

They even let us have holiday sometimes, we maintain an emergency service for contract customers but call in's will just get offered the earliest appointment which guarantees contract customers wont be let down.

Quite honestly with age and disability involved wouldn't you think one of their guests could host the meal in the warm instead ?

Yes, did notice the word "emergency" Why did you not call local heating engineer as BG have priority to serve their own paying customers first!
Rather than waste time posting about a company you or the elderly have not bothered to take out cover with???

OP - I see your point!

It's no urgent attention is it, so I guess they can't really help in emergency situations.

I think some people have been critical on you, but we shouldn't forger the time and day, most people on here are lonely and bitter today!

I'm only here because I can't sleep, yet I feel for others who will be alone at this special time :cool:
