I was buying an electrical item about a year ago that needed a charger - anyways on the day that I was buying it they didn't have the charger so she gave me a promise thingy at customer services to pick one up later. When she was giving me this promise thing she asked for my clubcard - she pumped in the number and my name, address and all personal details came up on the screen - recent transactions etc.
It is obvious to most that they can do this but I was shocked nonetheless that personal info can be accessed by a member of staff in the store:eek:
i know this is shocking but please rember that its there job to keep it confidental and breaking the rules wuld have consiquences:cool: and if they started to discuss it with you im sure you culd refuse and request a manger to disscues things with0 -
Good morning all, hope things are good in the world of the elite
I would just point out that there is an exclusion to the data protection act that allows an investigation to take place where wrongdoing is suspected. It pretty much overrides all your rights in that instance.
The data controller or police only need to have a whiff of something iffy to potentially justify looking into your account/s.
They could have simple flags built in to show up when a 4p item is purchased. This could then start the investigation.
Having a flag to identify these items can be justified by the company saying it is part of their fraud detection system as opposed to a tracking system.
There are all sorts of ways around the law if you know how to word your t&c's
I'm not saying it is right or wrong, just pointing out the reality of modern life.
There is an exclusion but it is backed by very strict rules and they have to apply to a court for a full investigation.
They can't just keep stuff "in case" so they would have to be keeping it illegally in the first place.
I work in DP for a bank and the rules are so strict its scary.
Like I said before they can do that with a clubcard but not with any payment device.0 -

Yes, so pay to your hearts content with your credit card but if you don't want to be tracked for whatever reason leave your clubcard at home. Even though you are behaving completely within the law you may not wish to be trackednever stop doing your best because someone doesn't give you credit0 -
