I'm so sad
I finished work on friday, my plan was to tidy the house, make mulled wine, get the last of the shopping,
today i should be re-arranging the furniture in the living room, to accommodate 2 big tables for my family to sit at tomorrow, to eat christmas dinner from, i've a few presents to wrap, i was so looking forward to tomorrow my grandaughter is 22 months and to see her face will be a picture, she was a baby last year, and didn't quite understand christmas.
tonight i would be sitting down in my christmas pj's with a glass of wine watching elf.
but no the house is cold, theres no smell of honey glazed cooked ham, no mulled wine, home made gingerbreads, christmas carols, the bread is bought in this year.
just a bit of a mess down stairs, stuff all over the kitchen table, presents that need wrapping, a husband who's out working and running around picking up last min bits n pieces ie turkey and bread.
and why,
because i have the flu, i've been in bed since thursday, i'm hot/cold, throat is sore, full of stuff, eyes lids are like wee holes in the snow, and now each and everytime i have a drink of water i bring it back up, my tongue feels like a razor blade.
I was hoping that i would be better for today, but i don't i feel worse, i have slept solid since 9.00pm last night.
You know that woman who fights with the turkey on the advert well that's me i love it, home made stuffing, has now been replaced by bought from morissons,
the family keep ringing up saying they'll cancel, hubby said no he'll do it, and i know he will,
god love him when he gets home from work, he said he'll clean the bathroom, and kitchen wrap the last of the presents, put the tables up and prepare the veg and cook the meat.
I'm just feeling sad for myself, because i love christmas and i love all the things you have to do for a wonderful christmas day, and i can't do it.
Merry Christmas.......xxxx

Poor you. Let your family do their best tomorrow and when you're feeling better, you can always have a second Christmas. It'll be a good excuse to get the whole family together again!:D
In the meantime, plenty of rest for you. It's the only thing that can beat the lurgy!0 -
I know where you are coming from hope you get better soon0

Big Hugs
You are allowed to feel sad about it - it's a big disappointment when you have been looking forward to it so much. I know how you feel I had proper flu a few years ago just before Christmas and at the same time as feeling rubbish worrying about what would happen on the day etc. This year its my Mum who is ill in bed and not going to make it to ours on Christmas day and I'm wondering how that will feel. We will be seeing her on the day but its not the same as having the whole day together.
Let your family rally round and rest as much as you can and keep taking painkillers etc. Hopefully you will be feeling better soon.0 -
Lots of folks an awful lot worse off than you......0

Sorry you're not well. It has happened to me a couple of times. I agree with the idea of having another Christmas. You can have it any time you want, when you are well enough to cope with all the work and preparation. In the meantime, I'd make the most of being waited on !
Hope you feel better soon x0 -
Op , I too have been ill the past few days and so I am also running behind with my Xmas preparations.
The basics have been done , however the house is still looking like a bit of a bomb site!
Im not too bothered though as I cant really get into the xmas spirit and Im really (if Im totally honest) just going through the motions of xmas for my Kids. My Mother has got cancer and the past week has just brought more and more bad news regarding her condition.....
Xmas just seems to have lost its sparkle this year.
Enjoy time with your loved ones , thats whats important. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
OP, if you were able to write all this very clearly, then you must be on the mand, so hopefully, with the help of your husband, you'll be able to do if not all you've planned, most of it.
I came down with a very nasty cold on Friday. Not the flu, but not the common cold either. Saturday and Sunday, I really struggle and last night, I couldn't even hold a conversation with my parents through exhaustion. I'm better now and think I will be ok tomorrow after another very early night.
Don't beat yourself up, a lot of people are poorly at the moment with either the flu or sickness bug. At least you have a lovely husband to support you and I assume your children are old enough to look after themselves. Let them all pamper you tomorrow instead, you can't help feeling poorly.0 -
A couple of years ago I got up on christmas morning, we did the present thing and then I don't know what hit me ......felt as sick as a pig....and was.
OH (who thank goodness is a far better cook than I) asked if I wanted him to cook dinner - insisted that it was cooked, he spent hours cooking only for me to take one look at it and spent all day being ill.
Looked after me Christmas night by running a bath and generally pampering me even though I was in a terrible state.
Meant more to me than any present he could have bought and just reinforces the view that its not what you buy its how you look after each other generally2014 Target;
