Very excited for all the soon to be debt-free members! Triple Choc I hear there was a postal strike coming, so beware :rotfl:

Out of interest, if someone were to ask any of you what your greatest achievement was in a job interview, would you ever say 'becoming debt free'? It's a good achievement, and shows you can budget and are motivated, but at the same time, people wonder why you got in to debt. I'm just intrigued, as I'm studying potential interview questions (no interviews, I'm just really bored)

I think if you could say that you paid off a student loan, or a credit card bill etc early to become debt free, that could be used to show motivation, but just to say becoming debt free may make them assume that you had large debts that you were reckless to get.

I'm just interested. I'd more likely say a charity fundraising event, but when I was writing out my achievements, it was obviously one of them, and I just wondered if it would be the one others would mention.

Hi amr547 - my mum was in a similar position as you with the debt collectors. A guy who lives 1 mile down the road used her address for letters and she kept returning them as "Not at this address" & even wrote the correct address on them but they ignored her. The debt collector turned up on her doorstep and was really friendly and apologised for the inconvenience. I opened one of the letters as I was so cross and rang the people hassling my Mum and threatened them with Trading standards. We haven't heard from them since.

I am sure there are others on here who can help.
