they've not offered me a solution yet, just passed it on to the complaints dept. guh. BG has said they would change both our meters free of charge, they wouldn't charge to change the payg one over.
  • I know where the confusion has occurred, Jonesy88.
although gas meters measure the amount of gas used in hundreds of cubic feet or cubic metres

You would multiply hundreds of cubic feet, by 2.83, to convert to cubic metres.

I'm going to throw my tuppence worth in bedsitbob and jonesy88 - I used to be in charge of our gas meter in shared houses. We typically used about 3-4 units a day in a pokey flat to freeze our little socks off (and I used to stress about every unit!) I was amazed when I moved to my final year flat and it only ate about 1 unit a day, so I was really excited about having 1/3 of the bill! I was a bit disappointed when the bill came, and I realised that the new meter was metric, and the old one must have been in ft :rotfl: I had never notices they had ft or m^3 on the front.

The conversion rate of 2.83 sounds familiar, but it's not to convert feet to metres or vice versa - I thought it was the conversion rate to kWh?

minicooper - the 2.83 converts your imperial usage to metric to then continue the calculation to kwh. To carry on after that you need the calorific value of the gas etc etc - gas is complicated!

Tell me about it! But then we have spent so long paying it off, we deserve a little treat...

jonesy88 I'm not even going to pretend I understand it! It's confusing enough...

Well today my new credit card arrived, and I think it's safe to say my credit rating has improved since I changed all my addresses over. It has a £4k limit  but that's all 15 months interest free on purchases. It's for emergencies only, but I do have a feeling I might find it a bit tempting sometimes. EMERGENCIES ONLY!

Calorific....I really don't think you should be advocating that as any kind of weight loss diet...

Put it in a box of water, then in the freezer. That way you have to wait hours before you can buy anything and you know that it's definitely an emergency :)

OH is being vile these past 24hrs, no idea what is wrong with him but he's really not being nice. The latest is that he's annoyed with me because I didn't offer to help him make his salad for lunch tomorrow...it's not MY salad!!!

    :hello: Everyone,

Sorry to jump off your current chat topic (it all sounds very frustrating amr547! I hope you get it all sorted!)

Just wanted to say Hi! I've been subscribed to this thread for a while as an incentive to try to bring forward my Debt Free Date which was originally Jan 2014.

I've been number crunching and with recently having moved, I have a little more money and should be able to bring my DFD forward to Christmas 2013!! :j So fingers crossed, my November wage is my new aim to be paying back final figures and it looks very achievable!

At the mo my current figure is: £1730/£4130 = 42% Paid.
Over the next few months I should be able to pay much bigger chunks off the debt. Eeee! *excited* Thank you for this thread as it is pushing me to bring that delectable Debt Free Date nearer!! :T

Hi and welcome LoveaDove  well done for the payments so far! :T You are #183 good luck :j

  • Just updating.

I've only managed to pay £135 off of my debts this month as it's been ds3's birthday and now with the summer holidays here, i wanted to save some money so we can have some nice days out.

I really wish this total was going down quicker but it's really hard with 3 kids. The good news is ds1 has got himself a part time job, so that should save me £100 in pocket money a month :j.
