We were a relatively good school - only 2 out of 7 of the girls in my year had babies before 20, and I think the rest of us will be at least late 20s. I've only just reached the age where, when I hear one of my same age friends is expecting, I don't think they're too young! I'm 24, so have gotten uni out of the way, and the next hurdle is becoming chartered. Most women have to drop the chartership dream for a few years if they have any kids!

Our age gaps will be very similar :) I was 27, 30 and will be 35 when this one is born. How have you found the age gaps as they get older? Am slightly worried about the youngest being left out but as they are all the same sex hope they will find things in common :D I suppose they just have to get on with it anyway!

So I decided to go try out my local badminton group this week, as a way to meet more people and be a bit active. I emailed ahead to say I was a beginner and hadn't played for a number of years and to check that was ok. The lady that emailed me back said they had a mixed range of levels, but she didn't say that being a beginner was a problem. When I went along tonight, it turned out the other players were all quite advanced, and so one of them wound up taking me to one side to teach me how to improve my technique. By the end of it, when I tried making small talk with the other members, they were generally a bit frosty, and before we left, the lady in charge took me to one side to say (in a nice way) that maybe I should get some lessons before I come back...

Am a bit annoyed that the lady I emailed didn't let me know before I went along, as it would have saved me a lot of embarrassment, and would have let the other players enjoy their night. My counsellor suggested I try joining a club to help me get over my depression, so it's very frustrating having it back-fire so badly...

I'm not going to go that far, but it was just really overall a bit frustrating, and has done absolutely nothing for my overall morale. I'm trying to console myself that I made the effort, and that is a really positive step from where I was a few weeks ago! But on the other hand, I've made the effort and look where it got me...

Just to put your mind at rest, one of the teachers in the school I work in had a baby last year at the ripe old age of 51, she thought she was on the change . So don't rush into things yet, well it deffo wont be with anybody from the badminton class. Are there any walking groups you can join, they usually are for people of all ages.

    Good luck. x

Oh that's dreadful! :( You should def email and tell her even informally. What's the next thing to try, you should try again either another badminton club or another sport, most clubs are very friendly.
