in my slow cooker today I have 5 chicken thighs (£2.25 1/2 a bag of Morrisons frozen), 4 tablespoons yellow split peas soaked overnight, 6 tablespoon red lentils, 2 carrots chopped fairly small, 1 red pepper chopped, 1 large onion chopped, tin of tomatoes chopped, 1/4 jar of Patak's Tikka Masala found lurking at back of fridge.
I'm off to bed in a few minutes as work nights and hoping to get up to a good curry, to which I will add some basmati rice.0 -
Finely diced onion, 2 carrots and 2 sticks celery (whizzed in my braun blender so the kids don't notice them), two tins chopped tomatoes (again whizzed up as kids don't like lumpy veg) and about a lb of chuck steak, 1 pint beef stock, 1tsp cumin seeds, tsp and a half cayenne pepper, 3 chopped garlic cloves and a tbsp paprika. Browned the beef and veg first and then stuck it all in slow cooker this morning at 8.30 on low for tea at about 5-6pm. Its my version of Chilli and will be served with rice later. I do think I will need to thicken the sauce slightly later on though. Anything left over will be frozen for another nights tea.Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. I'm making cola pork in ours for tea tonight
Chopped pork steaks, chopped onions and garlic and some rola cola to cover it. It's my first ever SC meal so I hope it's alright, it's always been delicious when I've made it in a pan.

Ive got some chicken breasts and I thought I would chuck em in the slow cooker with halved new pots, carrots, leek, onions and half a pint of veg stock................... but Im not sure hmmm
Should I put the veggies at the bottom and breasts on top and should I use chicken stock instead of veg stock? Do you think it will be tasty or should I add something else??
Can anyone help? Any suggestions or ideas welcome!!!!!Quit Day - 8th July 2009.0 -

It depends on how long you've got. I've only got one setting (low) and if I've cubed potatoes quite small then 8 hours will suffice but if larger chunks of veg (potatoes and carrots especially) I like to leave for 10 to 12 hours as that's how long I'm out for.
You also asked if you'd add anything else to stock. I find that adding some marmite either a dollop or adding the contents of rinsing out a finished jar gives a nice flavour.
I usually chuck in some country soup mix or yellow peas and chilli flakes. But you can experiment with flavours.
One that worked well for me was BBQ chicken legs (whoopsied 30p for 6) own brand pasta sauce (1 jar 36p) tin of pineapples (18p sainsburys) using the juice to rinse out sauce jar and add as stock.
Whoopsied new potatoes (20p for 2kg) cut into quarters. Chopped a couple of large carrots and about 4 or 5 small onions halved.
I put veg on bottom then sauce then sprinkled over some yellow split peas, then the pineapples. Followed by BBQ chicken. Then in the empty sauce jar I added the pineapple juice and a squirt of encoda hot sauce swirled it around with lid on and then emptied over chicken. Then as I'd forgotten to add them earlier I put in the onions.
It was another concoction but it's one I'll definitely make again.0 -

put some minced beef in last night on its own with no liquid for a couple of hours and it browned itself off nicely in the dish. spooned off some of the fat. added some garlic powder, mixed herbs, extra dried basil, chicken seasoning (i know it's beef!) and a glass of wine. this morning i added a beef stock cube, some tomato puree, tin of kidney beans, some extra dried chillis, a cup of frozen sweetcorn and some cooked salad potatoes. have left it ticking over and it should be tasty for lunch! it'll just be me, so it'll be a big plateful with some leftover to freeze.0

Today I have a gammon joint soaked overnight in cold water, a few chopped carrots, some celery in chunks, a couple of onions and a handful of soup mix (soaked overnight and cooked for 10 mins) some chicken stock & a few black peppercorns, hoping it will taste as good as it smells
Looking forward to this for dinner, have it on high at the moment but will turn it down to low in a few hours.0
