sui_generis - please let me know how it goes as I still have my jar in the cupboard. Was going to do it earlier in week but realised I had no room in my freezer to store the leftovers:o
Also wondering if anyone has tried frying steak in the SC. I dont mean as in frying it but could it be used instead of other beef??
Will do, smells OK so far.
I simply assume you can use anything in a slow cooker - I have little or no knowledge of cuts of meat and simply buy what looks good and is affordable.0 -

Cant decide whether to do chicken (reduced to next to nothing and frozen raw) or quick fry steak (again frozen raw but left over from another meal before SC bought) for my next SC meal.........
I have used rump steak sometimes, and its turned out fine. I often use casserole steak. What were you thinking of doing with it?0 -
Today Ive got chicken strips in with potatoes, broccoli, carrots and sweetcorn and a couple of cans of cream of mushroom soup. Think I've got too much liquid now, think maybe one can would've done it. Blast!
Any advice?0 -
Elf, yes I've cooked frying steak in the SC, sort of sliced up and cooked with mushrooms and onions. Made gravy with the juices and served with mash, roasties, carrots & cabbage. Gorgeous!:beer:0

thai green curry made with turkey thigh browned in a pan, can of coconut milk, some thai green curry paste, dried milk powder, water, chicken stock cube, a red chilli that needed using and some mange tout and baby sweetcorn.... i put it on about an hour and a half ago and it smells delish! should be ready for dinner about 8..0

Used about 450g of casserole steak sliced about 3mm thick. I think it cooked on high for about 90 minutes before switching to low and I'm fairly sure it was cooked in about 4 hours and probably sooner. Added a handful of frozen sweetcorn about 1/2 hour before serving. Ended up with enough to freeze for 2 small portions - all that appeals in this hot weather. HTH0 -
Trishh - did you add any liquid or did you just put in the raw ingredients??
I have half and onion and some left over mushrooms in my fridge as we speak so thinking this could be a winner. Not sure how long to cook for but will just wing itEmma

That sounds lovely. What do you think was lacking? Ive not used Black Bean sauce in my SC before.0 -
Had it been stir fried the sauce would have been thicker, but basically I'd usually prepare it from the black bean paste you can buy. No reason why the paste couldn't be added in a SC, will try it another time. I don't like ready made sauces I always find them lacking in flavour let alone the unwanted 'E's' etc.0

Today I have left over half onion sliced thinly, left over mushrooms sliced and left over fry steak from the freezer with a jar of blackbean sauce!
Sui_Generis - I totally agree about jar sauces (much prefer to make my own) but LOVE blackbean from the chinese. If anyone has a recipe then I would love to try making it myself. Jars serve a purpose but I dont think they can ever beat the real thing.....Emma
