my rice pud yesterday was a success! opted for 1 pint of milk, not 1.5 pints (the recipes seem to say one or the other...), to go with 2oz each of rice and sugar. buttered the crock & sprinkled with cinnamon and mixed spice. left on low for about 7 hours. creamy and with a slight skin when i dished up. will have to try the coconut rice pud recipe i've spotted on here somewhere next week...

I cook it in my slow cooker for about 6 hrs on low. I have just tossed the mint and apricots in. It smells gorgeous.

    Thank you.:T

 Can I eat lamb more than once in a week?

I think next time I'll post my ingredients and ask for recipes before I start cooking. :rotfl:

My first two attempts at slow cooking were pretty dire. A BBQ-style root veg stew and curry, both of which I usually make on the hob, were foul from the slow cooker :( Anyway, not to be deterred, inspired by this thread, (and something to do with our gas bill shooting up 30 quid a month) I have decided to cook my lasagne sauce in it today and see how this one turns out. Hoping it is nice so I can save a bit by using the slow cooker more often instead of my gas hob!

For my lentil and pepper lasagne, I have bubbling away in the slow cooker:
    • A good lot of red lentils
    • 1 large red and 1 large yellow pepper, cut into chunks
    • 1 chopped onion
    • 1 courgette, diced
    • About 1 tbsp oregano
    • A generous dollop of tomato puree
    • Some boiling water from the kettle
I'll layer it up with lasagne sheets and top it with loosened off cream cheese. Should be yummy, in theory... ;)

Edit: It was! I added a tbsp of Worcestershire sauce to the lentils to make it a bit tastier. I also beat a pinch of white pepper, mustard powder and nutmeg into the cream cheese, then topped with a small sprinkling of grated Cheddar. YUM! So pleased I made enough for another 4 portions!

I am going to get a slow cooker on friday, has anyone got the tesco £12.97 one or the argos cookworks £12.69 one? I am just getting a cheap one to try it out.

Also is the anywhere on site that just lists the recipes for slow cookers?
    Thanks

Hi there I bought the Tesco one on Monday and I love it. The only downside is there is no recipe book but I suppose this thread is full of them. Happy Shopping x

I have the Argos Cookworks one (bought on offer at £8) and really rate it. I used to have a much larger MR stainless steel one which used to burn everything. The Cookworks croc is really easy to clean too.

Made a chicken chassuer in mine yesterday, cheated by using a tin of sauce, added carrots, mushrooms and tin chopped toms. Made enough for 2 dinners for 4 so got half in freezer.
