            Wow, what a response.
I think im in way out of my depth but if I can do something to get my pal in the clear then thats a good start. Everything else is just going to be damage limitation.
You can't if the third party won't accept you paying it. Its out of your hands.Ive spoken to the 3rd party to offer to pay for the repair. She sniggered and declined. I then offered her a full tank of fuel for her trouble - she was still laughing when she hung up! What was that about the season of good will?
She wasn't the one driving uninsured.0

EDIT: I have borrowed a friends van. It's their own vehicle, not business use ... as they move a motorbike around with it.
If it is a transit type it is Class 7. Doesn't matter if it is for business use or not. My insurance won't even cover me for driving my mates Astra van.0

I havent said anything other than "id be happy to pay for the repair" I then follwed it with "and give you a tank of fuel for your trouble." If someone had damaged my car and offered to do that id be overjoyed but shes taken exception to it. I dont get it.
I wouldn't be overjoyed but apoplectic with rage. If the incident took place on the road it tells me they're not insured and as I pay my insurance like many people do, I would be narked that someone who didn't have insurance expected me to do something to help them get out of trouble because they broke the law. I'd be inclined to phone the police as soon as I put the phone down.0

Call me a cynic, but I suspect that Spacey's suggesting that if the OP and his friend suddenly "remembered" that it was actually the friend driving, the insurance issue would go away.
The OP should not do this because (a) if the deception was found out, he would turn a fine and points for driving without insurance into a jail sentence for perverting the course of justice and/or defrauding the insurance company and (b) if he gave his real name at the scene of the accident, it's too late anyway.0
