Can you use virgin media box after disconnecting their services?

Options
Hi All,

Is it possible to keep using virgin media vbox after the services are disconnected. If yes, what channels are normally viewable. I have been with VM for years now and TV is just used for watching CBeebies :)

Cheers

No, you can't. And they take the box back, too.

The box is leased, it's not your property and must be returned to VM upon termination of contract.
Once the service is disconnected, there will be no signal to the box anyway.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If you can recieve such signals, just buy a Freeview box. They start from only £20. Or a Freeview HD box, which start from just £30. The £30 one I've got is an i-Can Easy HD. But at such prices, they are not recorders.

I found it actually very difficult to get them to take the box back both times I cancelled, in fact they refused at first, they didn't bother to turn up to booked collections and months later I got them to send me a freepost box to return it.

The box did work, on basic freeview channels iirc and definitely radio station channels were also working after disconnection, was quite useful but everytime you change channel you get an annoying message pop up. I changed to YouView anyway so didn't use it long post disconnection.

Why did you try so hard to return it. I am sure they won't charge you anything for their own fault if they did not arrange the collection.

I didn't want it to go in landfill which is what they told me to do with it, companies need to take more responsibility for recycling their equipment imo...

They used to take the equipment back I used to have a music service from them MCE which was great but once they withdrew the service, they took the equipment back, I have BB with them, and recently they have supplied a superhub, they have not asked for the original modem back, but I know that you can return it back via a VM store which is easier than going to landfill sites..

I didn't know they took the old modems back in store, I also changed to superhub this year but luckily at the same time I cancelled the TV service so managed to send it back in the same box as the cable box. Before I did that, they had booked 2 visits to collect old equip and just not turned up which really annoyed me after waiting in all day!

All local councils offer electrical kit recycling - it should not go to landfill. Just ask them where to drop it off!
