Need a new Laptop

if it's a hp/compaq, and the charger light is on, and the power connection appears ok, and no lights come on at all, sometimes pressing down hard on different parts of the keyboard at the same time as powering on may bring it back to life.
your data should be retrievable if you need any of it.
Thanks. It switches on, i can see everything working but the screen is covered in tiny white horizontal lines and flickers constantly. The battery has also been dead for months, will only work with the mains lead. The bloke in the PC repair shop said it's not the screen, it's the graphics card (think it's an Nvidia) I'm sure of he thought it was worth repairing he would have suggested it, he doesn't sell laptops so he's not out to sell me another one !0 -

Can't remember now, it has 700 in the description if i remember correctly, it's HP Compaq. Just been reading the stuff on the Nvidia defects, when i get it back i'll have a look again to see if mine is one of the affected ones. I'm working Monday so it will be after Xmas now.
Off to bed now, so i'll check back again here tomorrow. Thanks again.0
