    Have you tried installing Windows 8 on an older PC? It actually checks the specification of the PC and if it's not happy with it, it will tell you it can't be installed on the PC. Nothing you can do, short of upgrading the hardware components, will get Windows 8 to install on that PC.

    Unless the seller said something like 'easily upgradeable to Windows 7' in the listing, I don't think the seller can be liable for anything the buyer decides to do after they have received the computer.

    As long as it arrived in one piece, and ran Vista, in this case the seller has done their job
