Ebay Seller Laptop

Hi, my hubby purchased a laptop from Ebay, via auction, the PC was advertised with Windows Vista, it came OK, worked OK, hubby tried to install Windows 7 to bring it more up to date (which was his intention all along) It went crazy and now will not work, he contacted the seller who states that it is a software issue, so no he won't refund.

But...I wondered if he should have mentioned this was non-upgradable , it does seem a bit sneaky (I am biased however) thought I would come here and see if anyone can shed some light on this isse. It was not mentioned that it could not be upgraded. It seems a long shot, thought I'd try for him, he is so disappointed.

Thank you

Unfortunately I think the seller is correct here - it's not really fair to buy an item, attempt to modify it and then blame the seller when it goes wrong.

I sold a laptop running Windows XP a few weeks ago - I would be horrified if my buyer came back to me saying it won't run Windows 7!

To be fair, it does sound like a software issue! Did he check compatibility before installing W7?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Thank you sham63, I guess I am really being biased, I can see what you are saying, hubby should have checked it out prior to purchasing. It was a fully working Laptop ...on Windows Vista, the fact that it is NOT at all upgradable could have been discovered via a few clicks ...

Many thanks for such a quick reply.

    Merry Christmas:)

it probably is upgradeable, not that that is the sellers responsibility

if you post what the problem is, you might get a solution

Any laptop should be upgradable if there is enough memory and cpu power. Do a lot of googling to find out why yours won't.
Or wipe the drive and reinstall vista.

    What is the exact model?

It is likely to be a driver problem.

  • I believe from what I've found out ,Hp don't make drivers for this model if you wish to upgrade to Windows 7.

Guess it could mean a full clean off and re-install of Vista (arrrgh)
