4 days at home, 3 days out.
I would be grateful for any other suggestions in the sub £220 bracket or in fact other suitable devices?"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
It's the fact you want CD playback and also want to do word/excel thats the killer.
How much word/excel work?0 -

Thanks to advice on here I have ruled out a tablet. I like the OP saying "tablets for fun..."
What do people think of this?

I need to do some document work, so need word etc. But mainly a back up to main laptop that husband needs alot. Could also use a little for work, so light weight is handy.

Hillbilly1,
Windows 7 Starter is the edition of Windows 7 that contains the fewest features. As its a basic OS its mainly used on netbooks.0 -

If you really want a Netbook, perhaps this one. Also has user accessible RAM access.0 -
I have a netbook and it is the worst computing purchase I have ever made - it is pretty much not fit for purpose; (a) the screen is small and once you've factored in the window borders and so-on, there's not enough left for the content, and (b) it is slow.
Tablets are good for handy access, but you probably wouldn't want to use them for document writing.
I have a Blackberry PlayBook and it's good to do a quick web lookup or check the news.
I also have a rather old Lenovo X61 sub-notebook with a 12" display, which is a pretty good full function PC; the newer X201 is very good indeed.0
