I am not signing it because it is the same as all the other petitions on the subject, ill thought out and unconstructive. These pointless petitions take away from the real issues. I really do think that challenges to govt policy should be lead by those that understand what they are doing.

Then you have but a partial grasp of how and why politicians are swayed.

Come to think Lawyer Links to various Pro Bono and Free Representation sites might not go amiss either. A lawyer curated one will do more good than any hapless attempts by well meaning non lawyer types.

    A lawyer curated what?

You fail to realise that the govt will not do anything they do not wish to.

When Labour were in power thney wanted to change the rules relating to home education.

Through campaigning, we managed to get over 100,000 signatures and the proposed changes were not bought in.

Campaigning, signing petitions, etc. can have an affect even if it is what the current government want to change.

Doing nothing means proposed changes go ahead anyway.

    Or

A list of helpful Legal links to Organisations that could possibly help subject to charity funding, public awareness of those bodies etc. I was thinking Lawyer than some rank amateur who could post up a few links because at least the list would be complete and right and they might know a few things that a googler wouldn't and provide other links.
    Examples The Free Representation Unit
    The Pro bono place
    Law Centres
    Disability Law Service

I have the distinct feeling that MSE in all it's desire to see claimants get what they are justifiably and legally entitled too has not even got links like this posted on some central part of the site.

Just signed it, I cannot believe what they are getting away with
    Totally agree with the petition.
  • Thanks to those that have signed - we got up to 10,000 signatures today, less than a fortnight after the official launch. That will get a written response from the DWP.

There is more formal lobbying of MPs etc planned, the petition is just part of it, but it's the leverage needed to get more attention.

I agree that would be a good idea. As miduck was the one who suggested judicial review, s/he might like to help compile one.

  • If the 1,772 signed the WOW Petition did it, even though we don't need to know who you are. If you signed, well done @MSE, because the so called 'reforms' affect the most ardent right wing benefits basher as it does the despised underclass who the superior can look down on.
Well done so far @mse for views.

    War on Welfare

flipflop29 forgot to give it its proper title the WOW petition

I didn't forget, I chose not to mention the name. I thought it more important to concentrate on the issues than the name, as this is not twitter and it was possible to explain the petition in more detail without reducing it to the WOW tag.
