Signed with pleasure. Up yours, Maria Miller!
  • hmmm, bit wary of signing these things to be honest

Any particular reason, Blackpool Saver? I'm intrigued.

Thanks all those who've signed, we got to over 7,000 signatures in less than a week - ahead of target. At 10,000 the petition is supposed to get a written response from the DWP, and that target should be reached relatively soon. I'll report back if we do.

Signed and thank you for the link
Look to me that for a lot of peoples it is not necessary to understand things in order to argue about them ;)
:) Do thanks me if you find my post useful to you :)
  • rather not say, pretty sure you can work it out

I can't work it out tbh, but fair enough if it's something you'd rather not say.

Oh hell, I just drove my wheelchair through some rocky horse !!!!!, this is more liekly than the petition doing any good.
  • Fair enough sunnyone, but given that it is a govt epetition which has mandatory obligations at the 10,000 and 100,000 marks, and that a similar petition and subsequent debate was what brought out the truth about Hillsborough, I believe it's worth doing. The badger cull petition has been pretty effective too.

As the petition gains more signatures, the more likely it is to get press coverage, and the more the truth will come out about how the current system is failing.

It may not achieve everything it sets out to do, but at least it has a chance of doing something, just for the sake of a quick signature and email confirmation. Doing nothing will have no chance of changing anything at all.

You fail to realise that the govt will not do anything they do not wish to. The Hillsborough developments, whilst much needed, are vote winners - the govt would be vilified if they did not act now. Unfortunately in this situation it is the disabled that are vilified, the govt know they are not going to win many votes by making the system more fair, in fact they will win more votes by making the disabled the scapegoat even more.

Also worth remembering that 100,000 signatures does not guarantee a debate, there are endless reasons why they can refuse it.

There are more constructive things you can do, depending on your position. Judicial review is possibly the most effective, but is not a path to be undertaken by a lay person, or on a whim.
