:( how awful ! And so sad.

I have had piggys go without warning or any obvious ailment before. It's not your fault , just happens sometimes.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

So we lost our other pig last night - less than 12 hours after Misty dies. Our other pig had showed no signs of ill health but they were incredibly close. Can a Guinea Pig die of a broken heart?

    My heart is sad x

It's actually quite unusual to have no signs of ill health and die suddenly, often more so it is that someone doesn't see the signs or the vet doesn't work out what is wrong. It's a lot easier with indoor pigs to see the signs but depends how well someone knows pigs etc ie my pigs are in my living room so I see/hear any sign as I am near them for many hours a day. Pigs can get very down if their pig friend dies so yes it is possible they may stop eating and a pig stopping eating is always an emergency as their digestive system needs constant food, but could also be something else, given that your other pig had already stopped eating before your other pig died it was unlikely to be depression, something eaten, something in the hay or another health problem could have caused it. Don't beat yourself up over it, pigs can be complex, more so than a lot realise, it's always a learning curve with so many things that can go wrong.

Well both my pigs were indoors and we had piggy cam on them to get a true picture of their behaviour. I actually checked on her overnight and she was eating - then dead in the morning:(

I was very tuned into them both as was feeding Misty 4 times a day and checking them numerous times. I just dont know what happened.

Anyhow Im not having anymore - they can be so frail :(
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Aww.........you sound so sad :( . You did everything you could , sometimes these things happen.

Pigs I have bred myself have been hardy little dudes and most lived for 6-8 years.......one was nearly 9 when she had to take the one way trip to the vets.

However pigs I have rescued (from some pretty unsavoury places I do admit) have not faired so well , partly down to probable bad husbandry from the start , but also massive inter-breeding , and they had genetic things going on that no-one could predict or stop.

You sound like a lovely pig-mum , and did everything you could.......including pig-cam.

Don't let one experience put you off though , and all the best for future beasties you may have.
