    Hello everybody.

Have just done the first bit of Nigella's chocolate Christmas cake, will do the rest later, puddings are ready to be steamed.....why do I leave these things so late??

Beth, sorry to hear about your friend, my cousin died last night, she had a heart attack on holiday in France exactly six months ago and was found to have lung cancer while hospitalised. That's 2 cousins and 2 aunts I've lost this year so feeling a bit shaky...

Lashing rain here, not cold, just uncomfortable to be out, OH wants to go out for lunch and to Chinese supermarket...think that I will take his laser card from him, he gets very giddy at this time of year!

Hugs to all, stay safe and warm.

Beth- sorry to hear about your friend. Found out last night one of my friends' sister is in hospital dying, diagnosed with bowel cancer 2 months ago and it has spread, only a matter of time for her, only 43, its awful newsBetter go get organised before MIL arrives, she doesnt like to drive in unfamiliar places or in the dark, so has been coming here to go to visit.
    RIP Iain

    Hello all.

Firstly, GWS vibes for all who are not feeling up to scratch today; special mega-healing vibes for Mr Jools.:o
    floss2 on yesterday's thread:
LW, does Mr LW's work have anything in their HR policies about carers and carers leave? I only ask as my employers do and it applies when taking someone to hospital appointments etc.
I don't believe so. When he was interviewed for the job there, he said up front that he's my carer, and they were concerned about how he'd manage for training courses; his reply was “if it's in Reading, I'll commute” which is what he did last year when he had a course. They also make a concession to him that he doesn't have to visit customers up in Manchester, which would mean being away overnight, but that's it.

His boss is actually as frustrated about this as we are; it's the customers (who are, in fact, the NHS – there's irony for you) who have caused the change. However, I am perfectly aware that Mr LW's presence is essential to this move going smoothly (he's a Unix expert, amongst other things) so I'm not about to rock the boat, particularly as I don't think this scan is going to throw any light on the problem in all honesty.:(

He's called the hossy again, and they are going to send a new appointment letter, for after 4th February. I'm also holding off on trying to sort out the pain clinic til the data centre move is done and dusted, because if I try and book something, Loki will intervene, and the move will be rescheduled again, I'd bet my boots!

Betheebee, oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Is it just me, or does there always seem to be a lot of people making their journey to the Summerlands at this time of year? It's two years yesterday since Mr LW's sister left us.:( *reads on a little further on the thread * Meanmarie sorry for the loss of your cousin, also.

Molly I don't have any piggy advice (only ever looked after them for a colleague) but healing vibes are on their way – you know how I am about animals.:o

Me, well i need to count my blessings today as i'm feeling teary, delicate and a feeling of loss/lack of purpose is ovewhelming me.
Judi have a (((HUG))); that pretty much sums up how I feel every single day.:o

Tina wow, well done to your mum! I hope you're starting to feel a bit better today; mouth pain is the pits!

I need to work out where to take Dave for walkies over the next few days (he's arriving late this afternoon;) I'd put money on it that the balancing lake will be full, and the field where I'd normally take him flooded.

Just need to say thank you all so much for your kind words, I'm not coping at all well this time, this is the 3rd friend that has died this year. I am feeling guilty as I should have visited her last week but didn't find the time. :o We all seem to belive that nothing can happen so suddenly and that life will be the same tomorrow. It's not. So many times I've thought ....... if only.
Someone once told me " if ifs and ands were pots and pans, there'd be no need for tinkers " An old saying I belive.
MEANMARIE, I'm sorry to hear about your cousin, thoughts are with you.
JOOLS Again sorry to hear your sad news about your DF's sister. Hope she wont suffer too much, it's such a cruel disease.
ELAINE, Thinking of you in your sad time also. Well done on the interview, got my fingers crossed for you.
JACKIO It doesn't matter how many years have passed, I bet you think of your DMum at Christmas time every year.
LAMEWOLF, Yes it does seem there are a lot passing over, maybe because of the time of year it hits harder.
Once again thank you all. :A

My gran and mum both used that expression.

We must all be full of "if onlys", I know I am and they get more as I get older. I try and live my life to not cause regrets but still have them. I received a Christmas card yesterday which tried to pile some guilt on me for not keeping in touch with someone who I left long ago in my past. I spent the evening wondering if I did the right thing and now feel quite maudlin about it, thinking should I do something or should I ignore it.

Don't beat yourself up Betheebee, your friend will have known you loved her and she will live on in your heart always.

  • Evening all
Thinking kind & healing thoughts for MEANMARIE, JOOLS ELAINE, JACKIO LAMEWOLF & Molly & her piggies.
Last day tomorrow, very much a slog & just putting one foot in front of the other 'til it's over.
Babysitting again tonight, the Ex is still being an Ahole & refusing to let SIL leave on time so DD can go to work.
I need to make a batch of brownies tonight, my contribution to the end of term bunfight.
    Have a good evening everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Mean Marie, I am so sorry to hear about your cousin.

I keep reminding myself that I am the same age as my dad when he died and it makes me feel very mortal. I am having a bit of a down in the dumps day, I need to get my backside moving and do something useful and shake off this mood.

I hope the flooding problems aren't affecting anyone here, I wonder if there can possibly be any more rain left to come down but it still keeps coming.
