Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 19th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
I've been awake since 2:45 & up since 3:15, I've reloaded DW & WM, I don't have to worry about the neighbours as I can hear their WM chugging away. I've made 2 dozen cheese palmiers & 2 dozen sugar pin wheels for the support staff. Packups made, spag bol, tea tonight is defrosting, pork chops for hubby, egg on toast for me.
I shall make some porridge in a moment & feed the fish as they are queueing up against the glass, glaring at me.
Hugs to Molly & LW.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • morning everyone,

havent been feeling too great since migraine at weekend so going through the motions really, started to get an ear ache which seemed to link into my throat and had the start of a sore throat, been dosing up with various over the counter meds to fend it all off... have been trying to get on top of things but feel quite rough and still have work to get through for the next few days... we also find out today whether we have secured the contract I work on, which is due to end the end of December, they are cutting it fine but the vibes seem positive and for the first time ever the company are laying on a buffet, either to soften the blow of impending redundancy, or to celebrate keeping it for another 3 or 5 years....

how these things are sent to try us!

Hope everyone has a good day

    Morning all,
Another one up at silly o'clock. 4.50.
I need to finish the bedrooms today, put the ironing away and sort clothes for xmas. Our family are having the Christmas gathering on Sunday so must get fresh stuff tomorrow, don't really want to go out today as it's tipping it down. On flood alert again so DH will get the sand bags out.
DD2 is popping in after dropping DGD2 at play school, she's bringing a load of presents that I'll wrap for her. I did 10 for her y/day when I looked after DGD3 whilst DD did some shopping.
Got some ys smoked cod for dinner tonight, mmh might make some chips for a change.
My DF died y/day, her DD asked me to write something for her Mum's eulogy, we had been friends for 35yrs. DH bought a sympathy card y/day and I wrote part of the reading last night. Sad time for the family again as their DDad died on Xmas day last year.
Lots of hugs to all poorlies.
  • Good morning all,
Very cold, windy and pouring with rain.
I have got a stinking cold. Finish work tomorrow for Christmas so that couldn't have come at a better time. Am keeping dosed up so i hope the cold doesn't stick around for too long.
Wm is on. It will go on the airer if hubby puts it on there or i will do it when i get home from work.
Tea tonight is chicken with vegetables and potatoes. I may just have soup. I have some hm ones in the freezer so i will dig one of those out.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

  • betheebee how dreadful my condolences for you and your friends DD,its a dreadful time of the year to lose a loved one I know I lost my lovely Mum in December 1962 and can still remember how awful that year was and a few following years it wasn't until I was married and had children of my own that I really came to terms with Christmas.

I am off to my sis-in-laws this morning doing a present drop-off and may stick my nose around the Macknade farm shop just outside Faversham as its a brilliant place and I can never resist a quick shufti. Its like a Harrod food hall in there and I usually buy lots of spices that you can't buy anywhere else and at half the price as well. They also have the most delicious cheese counter, and it would be churlish not to have a quick peek :):)
Have a good'un whatever you are doing

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Getting light here now this morning, looks like no frost but raining.

DH up and now enjoying a cuppa. He has a day off as we're going away this lunchtime for 1 night, we're coming back tomorrow morning and he's told his boss he will be at work by 12 noon.

Work was steady yesterday, but am now finished until 2 Jan - have quite a bit planned, first thing this morning I'm taking DS2 to school so FIL and MIL can collect him tonight, as that's where the boys are staying whilst we're away. MIL and FIL will take them to school in the morning and I will collect them as they finish earlier tomorrow afternoon.

Will head to the bank first thing this morning, and my friend is coming over to prezzie swap, be great to catch up as haven't seen her for a while, will say to her that we must make firm plans to catch up in the new year either they can come to us or we go to them for a meal - generally do a Sunday lunch.

    Need to crack on.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Beth: It's awful to lose an old friend - sometimes worse than losing a family member, there's so much shared history. Loving thoughts to you.

Just about keeping on top of things here. Taking the Rev to her first physio session this morning then want to give the kitchen a bit of a spruce up - the most important room in the house in my view.

Going past our lovely butchers so will stop and get something nice for lunch today, thinks....liver and bacon.....and some cubed beef for a good casserole to last over the weekend.

Fantastic night yesterday. The local Beach Hut put on an event in aid of Open Arms. Live music, wine tasting etc. It's a tiny place but they put up a small marquee and we stood shoulder to shoulder and breathed in each others germs. Don't know how much they made yet but it was a good time.

Have a good and not too stressful day.

    x
