If everyone PM's TG their balance for inclusion on the 5th August update then we should get a truer reflection of how we are all doing and we'll see how many of these mortgages we would have 'paid off' if we started at the top and worked down. So c'mon give the figures to TG and let's see how quickly we can pay Batgirl's mortgage off ;)

Some fantastic results so far, keep going

    Folks,

Not been around for a few days, but I've just scanned the recent replies and no one appears to have noticed that as of last Saturday (7th July), we dropped from four figures to 999 MFiT days remaining...

I've just paid in another £500 overpayment. Means I've paid in £1000 in the past two weeks, but according to Nationwide I can make up to £500 payments per calendar month, and my last payment was 29 June so it should be ok.

My regular mortgage payments are on the 20th of each month so that's should be approx £6.40 off this month's mortgage payment :)

    well done you!

i/we have come to a decision today. i have been slow stoozing off credit cards to put into premium bonds. but, when the limit is up in amonth or two we are going to go back to cash.

i really do think we will save more that way by thinking about everything before we hand over the cash. i also will set up a s/o for some permanent extra cash for the mortgage too.

i'll let you know how the cash thing goes.....

Hiya. Sorry I havent been on for ages, or given an update, ive probably been struck off the list.
Ive still been reading my daily email of all your updates and im at a loss as to how I can possibly join in really and truely.
I am going to explain and any suggestions would be more than welcome.
Our income is £2000, a lot less than im sure most of you seem to earn, we lost alot of money last year due to PH being off work after being hit in the car. Hopefully by Sept we should be bringing home about £200 more.
So basing everything on how we have lived since last Sept, after paying £730 for the mortgage and home ins, and £88 council tax (rip-off) and £60 odd for gas and elec (although this is due to go down a bit, water @ £29 and TV @ £12 and health ins @ £30.33, Standing order for £20 and I save £360 then car ins. This totals aprox £1400, i might have forgotten something. Then there is deisel, about £55 for the month. So now we are down to £545. We have a visa card with about £400 on it, but ive got that on 0% and tart about so paying that at about £50 leaves me £495, we then have to eat, PH smokes so even at the cheapest thats about £35 a month and a mobile bill of about £34-40 and at the end of it all, we have very little to live on. It actually looks better on here than it does in my cash book, that because I have missed a few bit off im sure. I keep a book, totally up to date, everything goes in so I can tell by the day how much we really have, we dont have sky, a telephone line, and go out maybe twice a month, i dont drink, so that never costs too much and im just not sure what else I can do. My shopping bill is normally about £30 a week, no inluding PH's beer for the week which is £13. We are trying to grow our own veg, slowly but surely, and we are even brewing our own wine and beer to try and cut down, but it seems to et harder every month. Reading this just makes me get more neurotic about saving as I have control of all our money and its driving me mad. The saving of £360 is for holidays, without which i would go MADer.

Any advise anyway would be great, but for now, its enough of a challenge keeping out of my £100 overdraft and having money for food at the end of the month, let alone paying anything extra off my mortgage. One day eh....... one day!

Keep up the good work though, those who can.

    Hiya
Don't feel that you can't keep up as it's not a competition. At the end of the day if you just overpay a tenner a month for now that's heading towards your dream of being debt free. My extra payments will slow down now as we only paid off a chunk because I sold my car. I was looking at my figures a few days ago and it's very unlikely we'll pay off £40K in 3 years but I can dream!

I know how you feel though. I'm at that time of month where there still seems a lot of month left and not a huge amount of budget! To top it all we received notification that the mortgage rate has gone up. Don't give up as we'll all succeed in this challenge in our own way xx

Edited to include: have you put your SOA up on the debt free wanabee thread as they're brilliant at finding ways to cut spending.

Carlsberg - dont worry about not keeping up with everyone - i wish i earned £2000 a month, im way under that (im a single mum too, so only one wage coming in)!!!

However, using the mortgage pig thread, and also ways to cut back/make extra money - this is how i make overpayments on my mortgage (also why i couldnt be mortgage free in 3 years, but by ive set a target i hope to achieve). Anything that i havnt budgeted for, goes into my mortgage, and although we do go without on some things (i rarely go out, dont drink much, dont smoke, no day trips out etc) we do still have a good life. I also save towards holidays (dont forget to use Tesco vouchers to help out there) save for christmas, so that the children can have basically what they want, we just prioritise (sp) what we want to do.

Hope you keep up with the thread, and even a small overpayment can help in the long term.

Carlsberg don't give up hope. Like Cat and LJD have said it's not a competition but a place of mutual support in our collective quest to get rid of our mortgages as soon as we can. Everyone has different circumstances with different mortgages out standing and different incomes to service those mortgages.

Putting your SOA up on the DFW board is a good idea, fresh eyes looking at it might help. Also have you signed up to Quidco, Pigsback etc. Some of these sites pay for click throughs, others are cashback sites. I have recently renewed my home insurance and will be paid £120 for signing up via quidco :) Surveys is another option. I am signed up with several sites, some pay in £ others in points which can convert to shopping vouchers which can be used towards Christmas/Birthdays etc.

Do you have anything to sell, ebay has got a cheap listing day on Thiursday, might be worth giving it a go. One man's junk is another man's treasure and all that ;)

Have you had any charges levied by your bank over the last 6 years? If so it might be worth claiming those back.

Stick with it, I am sure things will improve and we are all here to help.
