Ooo - good luck, minimoocow. It's so nerve wracking, isn't it? Today I'll have my weekly call to our solicitor to see if anything's happened on my sale/purchase in the last week. He seems to think it's normal to take a week to send an email, and likes to keep me in the dark as much as possible! At least this time around we already have the mortgage offer, so arean't waiting on that piece of paper, too.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
p.s. Updated my signature - we are now 'notionally' mortgage free - we have more money in the higher interest savings account than we owe on the mortgage.
Not quite as exciting as phoning up and paying it off, but that will happen once the 12 month deal comes to an end on the savings in November this year.
(biggest lump was at 5.65% net, the rest was 6.25% fixed ISA)
so all we're doing now is paying into the mortgage to have money left over at the end of this year.:DFANTASTIC :T:T:T:T Well Done

Congrats on this achievement. Enjoy Orlando when you go, you deserve it for this accomplishment. Nice that you can mark the occasion with a fab holiday like this.

Just popped my head round to say hello and catch up on whats been happening. I have spent a bit on decorating and it has given us a boost but I have had a good month with work so hoping to get the balance down to 5k by the end of the month.
I am nearly at the end of my capped tariff with the gas and electric so have had a look around and it worked out cheaper for me to pay a year in advance and get 5% off so I have. My goal is to pay off the mortgage (obviously!) and save up for a years bills so this is a good start as I will carry on putting away my monthly DD amount for next years energy bills.
Hope you guys are all okSave £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Hi dawnylou - I have a few things on ebay, lots on GreentMet and Amazon, some of which have sold. In the way of the world, I package up one to take to the Post Office, and that evening, another sells so it's back to the Post Office.
Do you always use new packaging for Amazon Marketplace sales? I only read that 'rule' yesterday, and it offends my recycling principles so I'm a bit torn now! I never use tatty packaging, but re-use jiffy bags.Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
I agree it all adds up mystery shopping, ebay, Amazon etc. Not sure about the jiffy bags I use old ones too and never had a complaint.
Things are slowing down here on the Mortgage front as DH's company really is not doing well. They are going to have to get rid of 1 more person who if he accepted could have stayed part time but his reaction was I will sue you. So he has to go and as he is not much of a team player it is no big loss.
It does mean no more holiday for us until they get someone else in which is likely to be in the Spring. At least they are still trading and not making a loss.
We have reduced our mortgage payments from £1000 to £420 so still on track to clear by 01.04.10 but this feels more comfortable. Starting to look at ISA's etc in anticipation of nearly being MF.
PM me anytime with an update otherwise next deadline is

me too Tallgirl! The rates are abysmal at the mo tho' and it seems that it will stay that way for a while yet. I have just shifted some of the kids money over to the Barnsley building society bond for 3 years at a fixed 5%, they will get more with me paying tax on that than if I leave it in their Halifax kids account due to the low rate. The Halifax regular saver for kids is good but of course you can only pay so much per month in not a lump sum.
I keep popping onto the savers board to see if anything is happenning but not enough to tempt me yet!
I hope everyone is trying to put a bit by for xmas (and January!) if they can! I don't mean to be painful but it isn't that many paydays away and xmas can have a habit of scuppering your budget. Don't want anyone to trip at the last hurdle!Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
