Yes I am here awaiting the updates thanks for all those I have so far. Nice to see some who have not updated in ages back with us again. I really hate to have to loose people but these are the ones who have not updated since January 2008 so unless I hear from you I am taking you off the list.

On a more positive note can I remind everone that we are now at 1/2 point 18 months to go that has gone so quick. We are still 87 left out of the original 134 so that is also fantastic. :T :j :T :j

  • Hi fellow MFW's, quick update from me

No mortgage over payment from us this month, we've decided to build our emergency fund up a little bit, due to the economic climate. The over payments are due to start again in January, when we are aiming for £1,000 a month.
The mortgage currently stands at £126,924 and we've paid off £8,926 since starting this challenge.

I'm currently trying to do everything I can to keep the energy and grocery costs low in our house, as I could see these spiralling out of control.More info on my blog.

Well done everyone on your progress so far

We're doing the same. I'm leaving a lot more in my company accounts these days just in case I have a prolonged break between contracts.

I'm really pleased that I've paid so much off the mortgage though, it'll make our emergency savings go so much further now, especially if I change to interest only. The other cost cutting measures I did at the start of the challenge are also helping to reduce our monthly outgoings that little bit more.

Looking forward to the updated chart, remember October officially marks our half way point in the challenge :)

Well done to everyone for taking part so far. Every single one of you is a winner by virtue of the fact that your mortgage debt is now less than it would have been had you not made any overpayments. This next quarter to half year will be tough with the financial climate as it is and with the expense of Christmas quickly approaching but I am confident that we have all come this far and will continue to make progress towards the ultimate goal of being mortgage free sooner. :D

    I thought I'd update today...

    As of today I'm at £48,977.09 :j

I'm ahead of target but still not actually made an overpayment :o :rotfl: My bathroom revamp savings target has been met as of last Friday :j (The costs of redoing my bathroom are included for this challenge as I initially was going to do a further advance on my mortgage) I'm now filling my Cash ISA as its at a higher rate than my mortgage... Hopefully early next year I might actually get to make an REAL overpayment :o :rotfl: :T

Thanks TallGirl for organising the upcoming spreadsheet and DD for starting the challenge in the 1st place :T

    No. 64 checking in...

Still making a £500 overpayment every month and chucking in the odd £500 here and there. Am hoping to encourage OH to make overpayments too though he doesn't keep monthly accounts so has no record of 'spare' money so it may be a bit haphazard!

My total has gone up slightly since last time but this was due to an error - I hadn't corrected it in the hope that I might get my mortgage down to this level and beyond by now, but alas and alack this hasn't quite happened!! Must try harder...

All the best everyone, keep up the good work!!

  • Hi all,

Financial Bliss checking in too... :D

    Mortgage today is 61,943.45.

However... standard monthly payment of 898.03 is due to be taken today, plus I've just made an overpayment a few moments ago of 151.97 - total of 1,050.00 for October.

After these have hit my mortgage account, I've estimated that the mortgage should be 60,917.55 - also factored in a few days mortgage interest too.

@ Tall Girl - Don't know if you want to take the higher or lower amount - isn't going to make much difference in the grand scheme of things... Oh, I'll PM you too!

    Thanks,
    FB.

Hi just checking in with my update. Having hit my original target (50K) last summer, I'm now aiming at a new target of 30K. My current mortgage is £37,668 so I should hit the new target in 2009 and then I'll set an even lower one for the final push to 2010! My overpayment for Sept was nil, but my bank did put the grand total of £15 in my overpayment fund (due to their mix up with shifting the DD to compensate me for a couple of days lost interest!)

  • Number 48 reporting in!

I've been continuing with the 'normal' overpayments I budget for, but haven't found any extra as I've been paying for my lovely wedding that took place in July.

New totals £66,000 for the mortgage, less £18,300 in the 'offset' ISA leaves a mortgage balance of 'just' £47,700. Very pleased with myself! Off to PM Tall Girl.
