Carolt - bit of a headcase - trouble is she's sneaky and sounds plausible; sorry you got targeted - it's pretty typical she resents anyone who buys a house regardless of personal circumstance. Regardless of overall economic situations people have personal timetables and scenarios that weight the sums. Lots of rational, long term posters get targeted, she particularly seems to dislike those with sane arguements. I did read the post befor eposted and yep knew what you were saying. Everythings slanted with her own agenda the separate houseprice board is quite good - keeps them off the main board, if these people genuinely cared about the housing nightmare this country's in she'd be offering decent advice to tenats screwed over tryign to beat the system but it seems jealousy and resentment against those working in spite of the situation that riles her... sorry to see you dragged down.

Sorry, this was aimed at me. I won't elaborate as it might bring the person mentioned in Barnaby's post into here and we've already had enough trouble on this thread with my stalkers.

    Cheers,
    DD :)

I've just had my mortgage statement, I have recently made a large overpayment (well large for me - £4650). I now owe less than £80K and my mortgage will be paid off in exactly 12 years. I'm well on with my target of overpaying by £15K and getting ever closer to my other personal target which is to pay it all off in 10 years.

The best thing about being debt free(and I've only been so since December 2007) is I no longer dread the mail dropping through the letter box in fact I can't wait to open it!

Dumbledore - well done, that's a big lump sum for most folks!

    10 years would be fantastic, wouldn't it?:D

To do it in 10 you need to start overpaying an extra £100 a month now, it sounds like a lot, but we started off at £50 a month and have ended up at £200 a month and don't notice it anymore.:j

    A quick update from me.
-Mortgage balance is now at £128,078 following our remortgage. We are still overpaying £600 a month and aim to increase this to £1200 in the new year.
This is going to require an even more frugal lifestyle however will be worth it in the end.
-I'm currently taking a really close look at our energy usage (wastage) as I'm sure we can reduce it to counteract some of the price increases

Everyone is doing really well, keep going :)

It's at this point in the middle of the month we all go a bit quiet - the excitement of this months new balance has waned, but it's a while yet to the next one....

try to fight the apathy, and let's see if you can find a few pennies for the overpayment fund before the end of this week!!

I'm thinking about finding some car insurance cashback from Quidco, counting up the pennies in the piggy bank and taking it to the bank......

    Well said Ailuro2!

I'm finding this challenge quite tough at the moment. We have done all the "big things" that we can find and are now just having to slog through paying off an awful lot of money.

To make matters worse, the house that we are paying this mortgage for, is really a development project (I don't mean that in a commercial way, just that we bought a house that needs an awful lot of work doing in order to make it a lovely family home). We are having big problems getting our architect's plans agreed (we are in a conservation area), despite their being drawn up in a meeting with the relevant authority.

I would not mind so much if we were trying to do anything major and we even have letters of support from all our neighbours!

So, we are paying out lots of cash to Mr Barclays and are living in an admittedly very nice, shed!

I know this is really silly, but it also seems a shame that we are no longer a sticky. There was something v encouraging about our thread always being at the top of the list and ready to inspire!

How is everyone else feeling? How is everyone doing with all the price rises?

I am so pleased we all started doing this - whatever does happen with the economy, we must be better set to deal with it than we would have been with all our original balances.

    Take care everyone.
