Hi everyone,I dont post very often but have just sent TallGirl my balance so I thought I would share it with you.
My mortgage has only gone down by 800 pounds since the last update but at least it has gone down.
I do have some offset savings against my mortgage but am not including these at the moment as they are not constant, but may include them at the end of the challenge, hopefully by then the share prices will have gone up so that I can sell and pay off a large chunk(hopefully about 9000 in 2/3 years time).
    Best wishes amazamum

  • I sent Tall Girl my update last week, but thought I'd share it anyway.

My current balance stands at £ 52991.73, reduction of £ 3008.27 since we remortgaged in January of this year. Managed to pay a lump sum off last month from some back-pay and expenses from working away. Hoping to overpay some more later this month by having a serious look at my finances, looking for lower car and house insurance, breakdown cover etc.

We can overpay by as much as we can afford so the plan is to do just that, we are determined to pay off the mortgage by the time our oldest son is 18, which gives us a little under 3 1/2 years ( Oct 2011 ), we would like to be mortgage free around the time I'm 40 but with a little over a year to go I need to win the lottery !!!

Congratulations to ailuro 2 on paying half the mortgage in a year :T, if only.

Keep up all the good work and suggestions.

    hi all

i'm afraid i am leaving my update as late as poss. (although not too late as last time my computer went pop and i missed the deadline!) as i still have money to come in from quidco, ebay etc before then.

decided to change my signature to amount paid off and amount to go to give me a MFiT new year motivational challenge.

have had quite a few bills to come out so far this year - home ins, car ins and then a new wash machine:mad: - managed to get it for less than £200 incl. delivery, fitting and old one taken away plus £6 quidco!

opened esaver account with a+l thru quidco for £20 plus sun bingo (wager £10, they add £10 too plus £20 cashback), where i also actually won £30-odd quid too:j - every little helps.

will post final amount in a week or so x

p.s. special thoughts for kaz x

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Really it's not much of an issue. It will cost us a couple of thousand. We (me and DH) knew we had to pay back the money and didn't mind that. I don't think it'll take too much longer it's just going to require massive willpower over the next 3 months.
We've already decided against a holiday next year because we won't have enough clubcard vouchers for a free one.
DH is raring to go at the moment but I haven't got all the figures together yet. Lets hope we can remain enthusiastic when we are faced with facts!

On a MS point, I asked DS's preschool to tell me what I owed as I'd forgotten my purse a few weeks running so now owed a few sessions.
He's funded for 5 per week and we pay for 2 at a cost of £8.30 per session.
I last paid up on the 3rd. Since then he has had 2 inservice days and 2 bank holidays. (In 5 weeks).
I was given a bill for £75+. I got her down to £41.90. I owe £10 cause I was late (darn it) on Monday. Oh well I've saved some money. I got totally confused with all the bank holidays etc.

Hope everyone's well. I'm looking forward to opening my emergency bottle of wine tomorrow night! (And my mortgage statement if you please Mrs Postman!) TTFN, Kaz.

Oh, Setmefree2, I appreciate your concern for my mothers health but she's 53 now. She's been pickling herself for years without any consideration for what it would do to the rest of the world so she doesn't really deserve any sympathy. (I know- I'm really harsh aren't I?)

:o Sounds like me with my mum, and what's not pickled is smoked  . And then she worries about buying chocolate in case it's bad for her  . I don't think you're being harsh at all, just realistic. You can't help her if she doesn't want help, so not point losing sleep over it (easier said than done I know)

    Good luck with plans x

Keep those updates coming everyone. I love update time! I realised that I should have waited until the 6th, when my normal payment comes out but it wont make much difference.

Kaz, I suppose you can just think how much that money saved you (in interest etc) whilst you did have it. And at least with your mindset and budgeting skills you're in a position to be able to pay it back. Can you introduce your sister to MSE, see if she can free up some money to help her pay your mom back?

I always thought I got my sensibility with money from my parents. But as I get older (and more MSE lol) it becomes apparent they waste so much more than I do, and more than I ever realised. Though they do spend significantly less on shoes :o
On a great note , I've been offered the other job as well. :j Yay! I can't quite believe that more than one person is silly enough to want to employ me but I shouldn't complain. The salary they're offering is less than the other one, and less than I asked for! But not by much I suppose. I just really want to accept both positions, I've made advantage/disadvantage lists and I suppose I know what I have to do but don't really want to do it.
  • I think for me I'll be under the magic six figures in August, unless Axa Sunlife agree my mis-selling/compensation for a with profits policy before then If they do, the money will be paid straight into the mortgage account! I mught surrender it anyway, I really want to get this mortgage down!!!

AXA Sunlife have AGREED my mis-selling claim, and instead of just over £2,000 surrender value, they're going to give me nearly £3,500! There will be tax to pay on the interest (just realised, it will fall in the next tax year so won't have to pay the extra tax for a while!), but without this site I wouldn't have the extra. So I'll be down under £100,000 before I expected!

Also, I start a new short-term job with my existing employer on Monday, in London. The travelling will be bad, particularly with trying to plan my wedding for July, but I shouldn't be out of pocket and the work looks like it'll be really interesting. All change!
