Thanks for all the updates, we have 88 on the list now and 33 have updated so far so come on the other 56. Also included in that is 5 who did not update for the last chart.

Would you like me to mark the ones that have made their first year target i.e paid off 33.3%?

Final date for updates is 17th April

Chart will go on here on the 19th April or sooner if we get all the updates in.

Kaz, sorry to hear about your problems...:grouphug:

I haven't got a clue how my MFi3 challenge is going to pan out. My dad has just retired and I think my parents are panicing a bit about money. They gave both my brother and I money towards buying our flats. It was agreed about 5 yrs ago that this was not to be repaid but my brother just paid £10,000 back  and they were very excited about this. I've offered to repay some regularly, a chunk in 1 go or all they have helped me with, too but they wont give me a straight answer  Its making planning my finances a nightmare  Basically I have no idea what is going to happen.

I've tried several times to point them to MSE or "it pays to watch" but AFAIK they have not looked at either. In particular I'm 99.9% sure they are in the wrong council tax band and would stand a very high chance of getting 1000's back and god knows what else they are overpaying for :wall:

    ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!! :rotfl:

taka there is nothing to stop you looking into whether your parents are in the right council tax band and presenting them with the evidence. I did just that for my parents last year, told them and it still took them another 6 months to sort it out, but they are going to be better off to the tune of approx £2000 :D They have been in the same house since council tax was introduced. Funny how they now remind me to check things out and shop around using quidco etc!!!!

Hope you get things sorted soon so you know where you stand, you too Kaz

Yep I've tried that! They live in a row of terraced houses and i think 3 of the houses are on a higher band than the others (they are 1). Some of the lower band houses even have cellers which my parents don't but are otherwise identical  . It even looks like one of the (lower band) houses may have appealled and won a few years ago as the date is different on the website you check the bandings on. I give up :rotfl: ... you can lead a horse to water etc ...

Have just messaged TallGirl to update for the end of our first year as MFi3s

Our new balance is £12,926 for 1st April - I can't believe it's over half paid, when originally it was planned to pay off £25K over the three years.

We are now thinking it might just be possible to be mortgage free BEFORE hubby hits 40, a year from this coming May. Who knows, we'll keep plugging away at it.
It would be a fantastic birthday present for him!

Wow, everyone's doing so well! Even with all the ups and downs and unforeseen circumstances. It does just go to show how helpful this challenge has been for people that even when faced with unexpected costs folks are already in the mindset of saving and so the burden isn't as great as it would otherwise have been.

I've not been doing well this year with paying off the mortgage as OH has been unemployed, but I've still managed to overpay by £2200 in the last year which I'm very pleased with. The next year will be even better though as OH now has a job and so hopefully we'll be able to start making more regular overpayments.

The mortgage reached a milestone yesterday when I overpaid the latest amount and took the balance below £80K for the first time :j !

Balance now £79658, and according to my mortgage provider I have saved around £1.5K by offsetting savings in the last year.

    Onwards and upwards!

That's brilliant under the circumstances. :T

And well done to all of you, you've kept me inspired. Even though I'm not in the MFi3, by following the advice and reading the supportive threads, we've managed to pay £3K since August with another cheque going off at the end of the week.

Good luck to you all for the coming year.

    Well done everyone :j :j :j

Kaz, hope things work out for you x

I'm stil waiting on a reply from Egg about my complaint  . Last time I complained they sent me 6 bottles of wine......... :o

And I will be writing to them again...... I have my own spreadsheet which I use to keep track of things, then I update on the 1st of the month after payment and gone out and new balance shows on their website. Usually I'm within £20ish, so it's accurate enough for my purposes. This month however it is £200 out...... in their favour obviously........ so another letter coming up methinks......
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
