Once again I find that I'm beating a hasty retreat from another "Don't pay your mortgage off" thread. :rotfl:
Do I argue the MFW corner too hard because I seem to be attracting a throng of anti-MFWers who all come out of the woodwork when I express my my pro-MFW opinion?Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Well DD - i would say just let it be water off a ducks back - opinions come and go. It is the big picture that is important. Just think how fantastic it will be for you and your family's quality of life when you are MF (just 900 odd days to go eh!)
You know what they say - Focus on the big stuff, dont waste your life worrying about the small stuff. Oh and apart from your family - it is ALL small stuff.
Have a great day.

That's so right MM. From what I've read from other MFi3ers, there is certainly a lot of friction with non-MSW friends and colleagues (and other MSE users) when you say you're paying down your mortgage.
As you quite rightly said, it doesn't matter what anyone else says - the only people who matter are your family, and they're the ones who will feel the benefits of having reduced mortgage payments.
The Dither family are already feeling the benefits - Mrs Dither was always worried about her retirement provision. With being unable to work due to the kids - especially our Lucy who has developmental problems she has never been able to build up much of a pension. By reducing our mortgage payments, I've been able to channel these savings into a stakeholder pension for her.
Going forward, as we reduce the mortgage further I'll be looking to invest some more of these savings to pay for the kids education. It's great to think that I'm taking the bank's profits and investing them in my family - which is what MFW is all about.

It's looking pretty darn good innit?
I went to Torquay on a hen night at the weekend and I was able to get some more christmas presents so that is us nearly done now.
I have the kids birthdays coming up soon and expect they want a party so that'll be about £100 but I had a phone call from work earlier asking me to swap to the night tomorrow from the early so I'll get paid 2 hours extra and it'll all be at unsocial hours. That's an extra £40 or so to the pot!
Unfortunately my exhaust fell off on the way down. I managed to stick it up with some duct tape so it got us home and car is now back in the garage awaiting fixing!
Wedding to go to in 2 weeks but we've already paid for the room. The car is full of petrol and won't be used until we go as it's in garage so will only need to pay for the bridge to get in (or out- I'm not sure!) and need to write a cheque for bride and groom.
I'm doing this because they have only just got their married quarters so will need to furnish it and they are being moved very soon so money is tight as a ducks bum (and that's watertight!).
Will try to keep on track with everything else too!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Just a quick note to say that I'm tired of my Dithering Dad username and the odd people that seem to monitor it, so that whenever I have a heated debate they jump out from all sides and have a go at me.
I apologise to anyone who has felt that I have argued the MFW case too strongly but as I have said many times I do get annoyed when people who have not taken the time to get to know us, condemn our aim to be debt free (yes mortgages are debts, what a surprise).
Why do these people not go into other boards and try and stop them from investing in pensions or ISAs or shares or whatever. Why does our desire to be MF cause them so much anguish?
I'm tired of being trailed around MSE by these people, and I am also concerned that they may cause the MFi3 thread to be locked/deleted just to get at me, which would be really unfair to everyone else. Hence I've decided to create a new username and enjoy not being DD (and having all this baggage). I will continue to check DD PMs and posts on here and will add new people to the list (oh, and update my signature and PM Tall Girl with my 3 monthly updates) but will no longer post as DD.
Rest assured I will always be rooting for everyone on this thread.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)
