Everyone is doing so very well aren't they?
I love coming on and seeing how people are getting on and strangely never feel jealous that someone has paid masses off. It spurs me on even more to find the little extra.

I rang up to get my updated outstanding figure today and to my surprise this months payoff has been 599 (was expecting nearer to 550 which includes my extra 200) so hooray. Maybe my earlier overpayments are already making a difference to the interest. Motivation very difficult at the moment though but that's helped a bitMFi3 member 105 - MFW date Oct 2023 - 12 years 9 months more0

I agree, it's great seeing everyone making such positive progress towards their goals. It almost makes me jealous that we no longer have our mortgage, I did say almostas the buzz you all seem to get when those figures goes down is fantastic.
The support from everyone is I believe one of the things that makes this challenge doable for so many. It's a long road to travel alone and finding friends with a similar outlook along the way has to make the journey a more interesting one.
Really looking forward to seeing the updated chart, please please everyone make sure that you pm TG so we get a truly accurate picture of where we stand. It's going to be one heck of a party in 2010Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -

I agree - it doesn't matter about how much other people are paying - just makes your day to watch your own outstanding balance falling...
In 6 months this year, since the challenge started, we've already paid off twice what we would usually pay over 12 months.
This is a direct result of the challenge - please everyone give Dithering Dad and Tall Girl a big pat on the back for starting / keeping tabs on the challenge!!!!
And thanks to everyone else for your support!
Keep up the good work. :T :T :TMortgage Free in Three - number 94

Really want to scream. Just rang Halifax to get update for chart, (only get an annual statement), and she said they don't give out the figure over the phone, only available by post or over the counter in my local branch, cannot get to the branch so have had to guestimate update. Last time I was given the figure by phone albeit approx and never received the statement. Oh well will be more prepared next time.
Good luck everyone0 -
Hi All,
Well we have had a disappointing few weeks. we have been holding on to an old endowment policy that we knew we would have to cash in to pay an extra tax bill. Unfortunately just when we needed it the stock market crashed. We were hoping to use it to
a) pay the taxman
b) pay off DH's bank overdraft and
c) pay 10% of our morgage
We have just about managed the first 2 items but the tax bill turned out to be more than we thought so there is nothing left over for the mortgage.
So there is no way that we will be able to pay off as much as we originally pledged but you never know what the next 2 1/2 years will bring so we will keep plugging away at it and hope for the best. We struggle to live within our means as it is but i do have a few things to sell.
Good luck to everyone else and well done for what you have all achieved so far.0 -
Hi,
This is my first post here to MSE. It's so great to find others who want to be mortgage-free. It's a bit of a guilty secret for me as most of my friends in seem to be getting bigger and bigger mortgages.
We've had a One account since 2001 and it's been a great motivator ! May now be planning a downshift so chasing down that final amount is key.
TallGirl - Can I join the "Mortgage Free in Three" party ? (BTW, have got PMs turned off at the mo but am happy to post my current balance here if I'm allowed to join)
Thanks,

Welcome! Can I ask, why do you have PMs turned off? We're officially 'really nice people' here - I've certainly never had a problem with dodgy PMs, if that's what you're worried about! Most of us also have some of the details in our signatures (the bit below the line).
You'll need to PM (or other) to Dithering Dad (see very first post) to be assigned a quest number, then let TallGirl know the details.
Good luck with your challenge!Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0
