Is this £10 on GiffGaff much cop? Any hidden 'nasties'?

I love the fact i've got a giffgaff app that pops up the remaining minutes available at the end of each call.
I'm on the £10 a month deal.. it's pretty good.0 -
Lets not forget payback on Giffgaff too.
It's perfectly possible to have 250 mins, unlimited texts and data, free 0800 numbers and free Giffgaff to Giffgaff AND the network pay YOU for the privilege.0 -
To be entirely honest, after the 'issues' they have experienced in 2012 I would be wary of changing to o2 or any network that piggy back on to them.0

o2 piggyback onto GiffGaff? Isn't it the other way about?
And what issues do you talk of?
Regards other networks - that's a bit of a non starter i'm afraid. I appreciate the suggestions, but i'm not prepared to go buying SIMs & locking into deals just to then find out that where i need a signal, i don't get one.
Example:
With o2, i get a pretty much non existant signal at home, unless i stick my phone in the corner of the window or step outside. I'm fine with this as i don't use my phone at home. At work i get FULL 3G signal as there's a mast right at the back of my work.
So i switched to Vodafone as i knew my mum got full 2G signal at home. Win-Win i thought. I took it to work & thankfully it was PAYG as i got 1 bar on 2G, yes, 2G, not 3G, 1 bar on 2G & nothing on 3G. Sometimes it would even flick to nothing.
I have an Orange SIM which i will test out when i'm back at work, but for now i'm only prepared to use the o2 network as i know "it works" where i need it to work.
I know GiffGaff are supposedly using the o2 network, but i'm a bit concerned that right now, i'm getting FULL 3G reception at work. If i switch to GiffGaff, i'm bothered that i'll drop down to 1 or 2 bars, or no 3G at all.0 -
The only nasty is they have a daily data limit and charge if you go over it, which a teenager on you tube will in about half an hour.Be happy...;)0

Giffgaff have a reputation for unreliability due to frequent outages.
However, given that they are PAYG you can always try them and see if they work for you.0 -

Gotta ask, how can this lineTo be entirely honest, after the 'issues' they have experienced in 2012 I would be wary of changing to o2 or any network that piggy back on to them.
be construed as o2 piggy backing onto giffgaff? And if you an existing o2 customer surely I don't have to spell out the 'issues'?0 -
There isn't a perfect network - just look at the front page of this forum and you'll see members with issues about all of them.
Herongull makes some points but they are contradictary to my experience. My wife, daughter and I have been with GiffGaff for around 2yrs and they have been far better than expected and much better than the large networks.
I suggest you ask a member to arrange a sim for you. Once you have it, activate the sim and top up with £10 - you'll then receive £10 credit plus an additonal £5 credit. Use it to make payg calls or buy a goodybag. If its fine then stay with them, if not then you've got £15 of calls (£5 of which was foc) and no contract to worry about.0 -
I'll try to keep it brief as I've moaned about GiffGaff a few times on here.
Pros:
*If you have other friends on GiffGaff, calls and texts are free, ie, they don't eat into your Goodybag quota (as long as you top-up with cash or card every 3 months)
*You get Payback for contributing to the forum (PLEASE, any new members, make it useful and in context with the questions being asked/replies already given)
*Unlimited data is absolutely blimmin' wonderful if you're an internet maniac like myself (the unlimited internet option is now the £12 Goodybag..I've realised that I hate watching data, so I won't buy the new £10 Goodybag again)
*You get alerts on your phone every time you make a call/text, so you can tell how much of your Goodybag minutes are left/the date it runs out (you can turn it on or off)
*You can call landlines/other networks...obviously, and 0800 numbers
Cons:
*The forum is AWFUL. Really awful. Patronising, lazy, rude or repeat replies are the norm. Take a valium before you log in.
*Unfortunately, Agents (the people you message for any issues) are pretty hopeless too. You have to wait 24 hours for each reply. Cross those fingers!
*There are frequent outages/problems with activations/Goodybags/site bugs
When they are good they're brilliant. When they're crap, they're the worst. You'll have a love/hate relationship with them.
I've been with them two years, and aside from a huge muck-up with a replacement SIM that left me without service for two weeks (and I had to beg an Educator for help; a step up from an Agent), AND problems activating my mum and sis..I still like GiffGaff.
Most of the time my experience has been trouble-free. I do think it's a "you get what you pay for" deal with them.
However, they have been really prompt and wonderful recently when I lost my phone and had to replace my SIM. Got a new one within two days, and it's activated right away this time, thank goodness.
You can buy an O2 top-up voucher if your local vendor is confused by the name GiffGaff, it will still work.
You CAN tether with the 1GB limit £10 Goodybag or a Gigabag (SIM for tablets/ipads), but not with the £12 Unlimited data Goodybag, or any others. GiffGaff send warning emails to those they suspect are tethering. The most data you can use was estimated at around 1GB per hour, 3GB per day or 20GB a month on Unlimited before they get suspicious (I'm going to check that, actually).

I can't compare O2 with GiffGaff I'm afraid, sorry. I've only ever been with Orange (for about 9 years previously, until I found GiffGaff!!).0 -
But Virgin SIM only are as cheap/cheaper than any corresponding GG deal, have proper telephone support and allow tethering as standard. Unless your EE coverage is poor, you have loads of friends on GG, or you ring loads of 0800 numbers, why would anyone choose GG over them?0
